Yahoo Music, USA Network to Promote Emerging Artists on TV

New York - Yahoo on Thursday announced an agreement with USA Network that will see music from emerging artists played on Yahoo Music's Launchcast radio service promoted on USA Network programs. Under the deal, Yahoo Music will track consumer feedback on independent and unsigned artists on Launchcast, and recommend well-performing artists and music to USA Network. USA will then "sign" the artists for an "incubation period," utilizing their recordings for marketing and programming on the network. The companies said veteran record producer and music supervisor Spencer Proffer of Meteor 17 will oversee the project.

New York - A federal jury charged with determining whether Yahoo's Launchcast streaming radio service infringed major record label Sony BMG's copyrights found in favor of Yahoo last week, ending a six-year dispute.

Yahoo Settles With EMI Group Over Launchcast Infringement Suit

Berlin -- Yahoo Inc. announced that it has settled a copyright infringement suit with EMI Group over Launchcast, Yahoo's Internet radio service. Yahoo said that it would make a one-time payment of an undisclosed amount under the agreement, which also grants Yahoo a license to stream EMI songs over Launchcast. EMI, Sony Music, Universal Music and Bertelsmann's BMG filed the copyright infringement lawsuit against Yahoo last May. The Internet company has already settled with Sony and Universal, while the lawsuit with BMG is still pending.

Yahoo Launches Premium LAUNCHcast Web Radio Subscription Service

Santa Monica, Calif. -- Yahoo on Wednesday announced the launch of a premium version of its LAUNCHcast Internet radio service. LAUNCHcast Plus, available for $3.99 per month or $35.99 per year, offers commercial-free access to 50 pre-programmed niche station streams as well as the ability to create stations based on favorite artists or listen to other subscriber-created stations. The service will also be available for free to SBC Yahoo DSL and Dial customers. Earlier this week, Yahoo announced that it settled pending copyright infringement litigation between its subsidiary Launch and Sony Music, which centered on the broadcast of Sony-owned songs on the LAUNCHcast service. http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/030129/290110_1.html
