Legendary Pictures Taps EA Exec to Head New Digital Unit

Los Angeles - Film studio Legendary Pictures has launched a new digital unit to develop original programming as well as digital content based on its movies, Variety reports. Former Electronic Arts executive Kathy Vrabeck will lead the new unit of the studio, which is currently developing big-screen adaptations of "World of Warcraft" and "Gears of War."

Los Angeles - Legendary Pictures, a film financing company whose recent releases include "300" and "The Dark Knight," is in talks to acquire Epic Games, a developer of video games including top-seller "Gears of War," Variety reports.

Irvine, Calif. - Blizzard Entertainment, a game publishing label within Vivendi Games, announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with production company Legendary Pictures ("Superman Returns," "Batman Begins") to create a live-action feature film based on Blizzard's "Warcraft" game franchise. Since launching in 1994, Blizzard has released several Warcraft titles, the most popular being "World of Warcraft," a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that claims over 6 million subscribers worldwide. The companies said that details such as naming a director, cast and release date would be announced in coming months.
