LG to Release Wristwatch Video Phone, a la Dick Tracy

Las Vegas - Korea's LG Electronics plans to ship a wristwatch mobile phone that also makes video calls later this year, a nod to the gadget worn by comic book character Dick Tracy, the Associated Press reported. The phone is about half an inch think and features a touch-screen interface, built in camera and full mobile broadband.

LG Introduces "Broadband HDTV" With Netflix Streaming

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. - Korea's LG Electronics on Monday announced that its new line of broadband-ready HDTVs will be able to instantly stream movies from online DVD rental service Netflix (NASD: NFLX). Expected to ship in the spring, the televisions will be able to access a broadband Internet connection directly, without the need for any external device.

LG to Release Blu-ray Player That Can Stream Netflix Titles

New York - Korean electronics maker LG announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Netflix (NASD: NFLX) to develop the first Blu-ray disc player able to access streaming movies and TV episodes from the online rental service. Set for release in the fall, the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will allow Netflix subscribers to browse its catalog, read synopses and rate movies using the player's remote, and stream movies and TV episodes from its catalog at no additional charge.

LG Screens to Power Gas Station TV

Chicago - Destination Media, operator of the Gas Station TV out-of-home digital ad network, said on Monday that it has signed a long-term deal with LG Electronics, which will become the exclusive screen provider for a number of the company's out-of-home marketing networks. As part of the deal, LG will also receive ad placements on Destination Media's networks, which appear at gas station pumps and other locations.

Roku Device Streams Netflix Movies to TV

Los Gatos, Calif. - Online DVD rental service Netflix (NASD: NFLX) on Tuesday introduced the Netflix Player, a $100 set-top box made by Roku that lets subscribers stream some of the company's library of films and TV episodes directly to their televisions. The Roku device currently offers access to 10,000 titles, or about 10% of Netflix's total catalog.

Korea's LG, Samsung Team on Mobile TV Standard

Gracenote Mobile MusicID to Come with LG Phones

Las Vegas - Gracenote, a provider of music data services, said on Thursday that LG Electronics will be the first mobile partner to bundle its Mobile MusicID and two other services in its music-enabled handsets. The LG handsets will allow users to identify songs playing at a party, in the car or even at a club, using their phones. The other features will let users identify any song imported into their phones, and seek recommendations based on the current song playing.

Omnifone to Offer Unlimited Mobile Music on LG Handset

Barcelona - Omnifone, a provider of mobile music delivery services, announced on Tuesday the launch of an unlimited mobile music download service, MusicStation Max, and said Korean electronics firm LG has signed on to introduce the first handset to incorporate the new service.

Armani's Samsung P520 - Another iPhone Clone?“If you build it, they will come.” So true, Kevin Costner.  So true.  But in 2007 the “it” is the iPhone, and “they” are every other phone manufacturer in the world.  To no surprise the iPhone has spawned imitators, even from the fashion industry.  Apple has somehow positioned itself as both a technology and fashion accessory company, this we already know.  But now the traditional fashion companies are feeling the heat and sensing the opportunity, throwing their own recognizable brands in the mix.  The latest is Armani, who has attached its name to the new Samsung P520, much the way Prada paired with LG for the KE850.

New York - Korean electronics firm LG has partnered with music business magazine Billboard on a contest that will equip teen music fans who are also talented writers with LG enV camera phones and charge them with writing concert reviews on blogs that will be hosted on Billboard.com, The New York Times reported. Thirty or so music bloggers will be selected for the Mobile Beat contest, and submit reviews through September, when visitors to the blogs will choose both three finalists and an ultimate winner, who will get a free trip for two to a Billboard Music Award show.

The Korean consumer electronics giant LG beat Apple to the punch when the company unveiled a completely touch screen mobile phone today in collaboration with luxury goods designer Prada that will be available in stores in February. The Prada Phone by LG (KE850) has glowing icons on the face of the phone that disappear when not in use to reveal a black exterior. The phone is ultra thin (just 12 mm) and it hosts an array of additional multimedia functions, including an MP3 player and a music multitasking function for messaging. Like Apple's new iPhone, that will not hit stores until June, it does not come cheap.

LG Electronics to Show Dual Format DVD Player at CES

Seoul, Korea - LG Electronics will begin selling a high-definition video disc player compatible with both the HD DVD and Blu-ray disc standards, it said Thursday. The player will be unveiled at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and go on sale in the US in early 2007, according to LG. No further details were immediately available.
