Library of Congress Launches YouTube Channel

Washington - The U.S. Library of Congress has launched its own YouTube (NASD: GOOG) channel, which will feature some of the oldest videos ever created among the postings from its vast archive of 6 million films, broadcasts and sound recordings. The channel initially hosts 70 videos, including the earliest movies made by Thomas Edison, and Westinghouse industrial films from 1904.

Library of Congress Taps Aquent for Web Educational Content

Washington - The Library of Congress said that it has awarded a $5.2 million Web services contract to Boston-based Aquent. Under the deal, the company will develop Web-based activities targeting kindergarten through 12th-grade audiences, as well as provide other technology services for the library's "New Visitor's Experience," set to launch this spring.

Microsoft to Take Library of Congress Interactive

Washington - The Library of Congress said that it has signed a deal with software giant Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) that will "electronically expose" its vast historical collections to the public through the use of technology.

Copyright Office Names New Exemptions to Anti-Circumvention Law

Washington - The Library of Congress has approved six new exemptions to a section of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that prohibits the circumvention of copyright locks on digital devices.
