Burlingame, Calif. - Richard Branson's Virgin Group has launched a text message-based game that will award prizes and donate all proceeds to Virgin Unite, the company's new global charitable arm. The game is a "Limbo Auction" from Burlingame, Calif.-based Limbo 41414, where players try to place the lowest unique bid, or the lowest amount that no other person has also placed as their bid. The first two bids are free and thereafter cost 99 cents; for each bid, players also receive points redeemable for prizes in Limbo's store. Auction items include a one-week trip for two at Branson's "private Caribbean paradise, Necker Island," and two Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

San Mateo, Calif. - Limbo 41414 on Wednesday announced the launch of its Limbo Auction beta site, a hybrid of a mobile game, an auction and a sweepstakes. The company essentially raffles off prizes like Hummer H3's and NCAA Final Four tickets to players who place "bids" via text message or online; the winner is the person making the lowest bid that no other player makes. For instance, the recent winner of a $3,000 plasma-screen TV bid $3.25; each bid also wins "loot," which can be redeemed for goods in the Limbo store. San Mateo, Calif.-based Limbo 41414 is backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Azure Capital Partners.
