EPIX Movie Channel Launches on Verizon FiOS TV Friday

New York - Verizon (NYSE: VZ) will launch the multi-platform pay-TV movie channel EPIX on its FiOS TV digital TV service on Friday, with a $9.99 per month price tag. EPIX, a joint venture between Viacom (NYSE: VIA), Paramount Pictures, MGM and Lionsgate, aims to eventually become a pay-TV movie channel as well, but to date has not announced any carriage deals.

New York - EPIX, the pay-TV and online video-on-demand joint venture between Viacom (NYSE: VIA), Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate, announced on Tuesday that it will officially launch on Oct. 30. The service, which to date has not yet announced carriage partners except for Verizon's FiOS TV, will at launch offer content include Madonna's "Sticky and Sweet: Live from Buenos Aires," "Iron Man" and "Eddie Izzard: Live From Wembley."

EPIX Web Service to Offer 3,000+ Movies on Demand

New York - EPIX, the pay-TV and video-on-demand movie service joint venture between Viacom (NYSE: VIA), Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate, announced on Monday that it plans to offer at least 3,000 films online via EPIX Megaplex, the online version of its service.

San Bruno, Calif. - YouTube, the popular online video site owned by Google (NASD: GOOG), is in talks with movie studios Lionsgate, Sony (NYSE: SNE) and Warner Bros. (NYSE: TWX) about the possibility of streaming movies that site visitors could view for a fee, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

Studios License DivX, Film Fresh for Download-to-Own Movies

San Diego - DivX (NASD: DIVX), a developer of video compression technology, announced on Wednesday that Hollywood movie studios Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. have licensed their films for distribution and download-to-own in the DivX format via Film Fresh's distribution service. The downloaded films may then be burned to DVD, or ported via USB for viewing on a television, or streamed over a home network to DivX-enabled devices, made by firms including LG, Philips and Toshiba.

Lionsgate Sells 49% Stake in TV Guide for $123 Million

Santa Monica, Calif. - Film studio Lionsgate announced on Thursday that it has sold a 49% stake in it TV Guide Network and TVGuide.com business to One Equity Partners, the private equity investment arm of JPMorgan Chase, for $123 million.

Konami Scoops Up Rights to "Saw" Video Games

Los Angeles - Video game publisher Konami has acquired the rights to create games based on Lionsgate's "Saw" horror film franchise, Variety reported. The rights were up for grabs in the wake of the demise of movie-adaptation-focused developer Brash Entertainment. Konami plans to release its first title in the fall, alongside the sixth installment of the movie.

New York - Studio 3 Networks, the pay-TV movie channel joint venture between MGM, Paramount Pictures (NYSE: VIA) and Lionsgate, will first launch the service as a subscription-only website in May before coming to TV systems in October, The Wall Street Journal reported. The Epix service, which has not yet secured any carriage agreements with cable or satellite TV service providers, will debut with over 15,000 titles.

Digital 3D Theaters Bring 71% of "My Bloody Valentine" Sales

Los Angeles - RealD, a provider of digital 3D cinema projection systems, said on Monday that its theaters brought in 71% of the total box office for Lionsgate's "My Bloody Valentine 3D," which made $27 million in its first week of release. The company also stated that opening week 3D screens for the film outperformed 2D screens by 6 to 1.

Macrovision to Sell TV Guide to Lionsgate

Santa Clara, Calif. - Terminating a deal struck last month to sell its TV Guide Network to Allen Shapiro and One Equity Partners, Macrovision (NASD: MVSN), the provider of copy-protection technology and media databases, said that it will instead sell the network to film studio Lionsgate for $255 million, the same price as the original deal. The sale, expected to close by the end of February, includes both TV Guide Network, available in 83 million homes, and TVGuide.com, an online entertainment destination with over 15 million monthly unique visitors.

Five Studios Pledge Support for Digital Cinema Upgrades

Los Angeles - Five of Hollywood's major movie studios on Wednesday pledged to support a $1 billion effort to equip 20,000 U.S. movie theater screens with digital cinema projection systems. Digital Cinema Implementation Partners (DCIP), a joint venture that represents theater owners AMC Entertainment, Cinemark and Regal Cinemas signed the pact with Disney (NYSE: DIS), Fox (NYSE: NWS), Lionsgate, Paramount (NYSE: VIA) and Universal (NYSE: GE), which calls for the studios to pay a "virtual print" fee of about $1,000 per screen to help offset costs, the Associated Press reported.

Lionsgate Taps Zed to Co-Develop Mobile Content

Santa Monica, Calif. - Film studio Lionsgate said on Friday that it has teamed with Spain-based mobile content distributor Zed to co-develop mobile entertainment projects based on its movies, TV programming and music, as well as original properties for mobile. The content will include mobile video, ringtones, games and community applications distributed to Zed's network of 130 mobile operator partners in 50 global territories.

Online VOD Service Jaman.com Adds Lionsgate Films

San Mateo, Calif. - Web video-on-demand service Jaman.com on Tuesday announced a deal with Lionsgate, to distribute a large collection of the film studio's titles on its service. A number of titles will be made available for free, ad-supported streaming, while premium feature-length movies from Lionsgate, including "Dogville," "Reservoir Dogs" and "Requiem for a Dream," will be available for download rental for between $2.99 and $3.99 each.

Lionsgate to Launch Ad-Supported YouTube Channel

Los Angeles - Film studio Lionsgate is in talks to offer content on Google's YouTube, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Details of the agreement are still being negotiated, but it would create a Lionsgate-branded, ad-supported YouTube channel that would offer clips from movies and TV shows; full-length content was not mentioned. Lionsgate head of digital media Curt Marvis told THR the deal could see Lionsgate's YouTube clips feature links to purchase full-length downloads elsewhere.

Participating studios include 20th Century Fox (NYSE: NWS), The Walt Disney Studios (NYSE: DIS), Warner Bros. (NYSE: TWX), Paramount Pictures (NYSE: VIA), Universal Studios Home Entertainment (NYSE: GE), Sony Pictures Entertainment (NYSE: SNE), Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studios.

New York - Media conglomerate Viacom (NYSE: VIA) announced on Monday that it has formed a joint venture to create a premium TV channel and video-on-demand service that will feature classic and new movies and TV shows from five studios. Scheduled to launch in the fall of 2009, the service will feature programming from Viacom's Paramount and Paramount Vantage, MGM, United Artists and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF).

Lionsgate to Deliver iTunes Digital Copy on Some DVDs

Santa Monica, Calif. - Independent film studio Lionsgate on Monday announced a partnership with Apple (NASD: AAPL) to provide digital copies of select films that can be easily transferred from a DVD or Blu-ray disc into iTunes for viewing on a PC, Mac, video iPod or iPhone. The first Lionsgate releases to feature an iTunes Digital Copy will be "Rambo" and "The Eye."
