Fans of the TV series Lost were no doubt thrilled for the return of the show last Thursday night, in spite of a potentially shorter season due to the writers’ strike. ABC's Lost, Dole's Organic Bananas and the Importance of Backstories

Several weeks ago, I noted an interesting story about how Dole is offering "farm codes" printed onto stickers that are placed on organic bananas offering consumers the chance to get to know more about the farm that grew the banana by visiting www.doleorganic.com.  On Dole Organic, you can see such information as a description of the banana plantation, photos of workers, and Google Earth images.

24's Secret of Success is Spelled R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Authored by Rohit Bhargava on January 16, 2007 - 8:37am.

24As just about everyone knows, the season premiere of the best show on television kicked off for two nights straight on last night and Sunday night with the first four episodes.  Serial dramas are hot right now, but having mixed success as a recent article in USAToday noted.  "24" remains the gold standard in those dramas.  For those unfamiliar with the show, it follows the adventures of a secret agent, Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland), over the course of an entire day in real time.  1 minute elapsed in the show is meant to be 1 minute real time - and from my viewpoint, the show's success stems from a single principle all the other shows would do well to learn.  The show has a respect for its viewer that is frequently missing when it comes to television.  Here's what I mean by respect:

ABC's "Lost" to Debut Alternate Reality Game in Show's Off-Season

Authored by dmw on April 25, 2006 - 7:50pm.
New York - ABC plans to debut an "alternate reality game" for fans of its TV series "Lost" on May 3, shortly before the second season of the series concludes, The New York Times reported. "The Lost Experience" is being created by the show's writers and producers, unlike other alternate reality games -- such as those for the Steven Spielberg movie "A.I.", and Microsoft's "Halo" video game -- which were designed by outside marketing firms. The game will introduce new characters and feature a plot that intertwines with that of the TV show. However, players will have to collaborate to track clues dispersed widely across media including fake websites, billboards, e-mails and phone calls. "We wanted to tell stories in a nontraditional way, and there were certain stories that [series co-creator Damon Lindelof] and I were interested in telling that don't exactly fit into the television show," Carlton Cuse, a writer and executive producer on "Lost," told The Times.

ABC to Produce "Lost" Spin-Off Episodes for Mobile Phones

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on November 18, 2005 - 3:25am.
Los Angeles - The producers of the ABC TV drama "Lost" plan to offer a spin-off of the show, "Lost Video Diaries," that will be distributed exclusively to video-capable cell phones early next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Lost" executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will handle production of 20 "mobisodes," set to begin shooting next month, without involvement from ABC or Touchstone Television. The spin-off will introduce two new characters not featured in the TV series. While no carrier partner has been announced, Verizon this week began offering several mobile applications based on content from "Lost" and ABC's "Desperate Housewives." ABC also recently began selling 99-cent full episodes of the two series for download to iPods, PCs and other devices, through Apple's iTunes Store.
