Westwood, Mass. - Multiplayer game developer Turbine has announced an extension of its agreement with Tolkien Enterprises through 2014, enabling the company to develop additional titles based on the books "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." Although the company, which developed "The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar," doesn't hold game rights to the films, it should benefit from the upcoming movie based on "The Hobbit," slated for release in 2010. Beijing - CDC Games, a unit of the company that operates Chinese Web portal China.com, announced on Tuesday an agreement with game developer Turbine, to distribute "The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar" in China. The game is slated to launch in the U.S. and Europe in 2007, and has attracted 200,000 beta participants. Beijing-based CDC Games also operates the online game "Yulgang," which exceeded 30 million registered players in the second quarter.
