Report: Game Publisher LucasArts Lays Off 75-100

Los Angeles - George Lucas' LucasArts game publishing unit this week laid off 75 to 100 of its employees, including VP of product development Peter Hirschmann and Shawn Storc, producer of its LEGO-themed "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" titles, Kotaku reported.

LucasArts Ditches Entertainment Software Association

Los Angeles - LucasArts, the video game development arm of director George Lucas' Lucasfilm, has followed Activision and Vivendi in leaving the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the video game industry trade group that produces the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Next-Gen reported. However, unlike Activision and Vivendi, LucasArts will still participate in this year's E3.

Nokia, THQ, LucasArts Detail New "Star Wars" Mobile Game

Espoo, Finland - Nokia (NASD: NOK), THQ Wireless (NASD: THQI), Lucasfilm and LucasArts announced on Monday plans to offer "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" for Nokia's N-Gage mobile gaming platform in 2008. Developed at THQ's Unversomo studio in Finland, the game casts players as Darth Vader's secret apprentice, and promises to "unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy."

LucasArts, BioWare Partner on "Interactive Entertainment Product"

San Francisco - LucasArts, the video game arm of George Lucas' Lucasfilm, announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Electronic Arts' BioWare game studio to develop an "interactive entertainment product," further details of which will be announced at a later date. The companies previously collaborated on the game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic." "Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment," said LucasArts president Jim Ward.

LucasArts to Publish Day 1 Studios' Third-Person Shooter "Fracture"

San Rafael, Calif. - Game publisher LucasArts has announced plans to publish "Fracture," an original third-person shooter title for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in the summer of 2008. Developed by Day 1 Studios, the game will feature weapons -- like "tectonic grenades" -- that reshape the game's environment to fit the player's goal.

George Lucas in Trademark Dispute With News Aggregator Digg.com

Arlington, Va. - "Star Wars" director George Lucas has filed a trademark complaint against news aggregation site Digg.com, which Lucas says is similar to "The Dig," a PC adventure game released in 1995 by his LucasArts games division.

San Francisco - LucasArts, George Lucas' games studio, and developer TT Games this week shipped their "LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy" title across eight platforms. San Francisco - Video game developer and publisher LucasArts, a unit of "Star Wars" director George Lucas' Lucasfilm, announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Day 1 Studios to develop an original game property for release on next-generation game consoles. Chicago-based Day 1 Studios created the "MechAssault" series for Microsoft and Xbox Live.

San Francisco - LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment on Thursday announced plans to release "Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Online Adventures," a compilation of the basic massively multiplayer online game and its three expansion packs, plus various enhancements. The title is slated to ship in November for $29.99.

The first THQ title to feature GameSpy online support is its "Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior" for PC and PlayStation 2; GameSpy will also manage online components for LucasArts' "Star Wars: Battlefront" for PC and PlayStation 2, and "Star Wars: Republic Commando" for PC. IGN/GameSpy also on Wednesday announced the launch of GamerMetrics, a service that will track awareness, purchase intent and competitive product relationships for video games. LA Times: President of LucasArts Video Game Unit Resigns

Los Angeles -- The president of LucasArts, the video game development unit of "Star Wars" director George Lucas' film company, resigned abruptly on Thursday, The Los Angeles Times reported. Simon Jeffrey had served as the company's president for three years. A LucasArts spokeswoman did not provide The Times with a reason for Jeffrey's departure or details on a replacement.
