MPAA Targets Fan-Edited Films Portal Fanedit.org

Los Angeles - The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) recently threatened legal action against Fanedit.org, a site where movie aficionados post their own painstakingly-edited versions of their favorite movies and trade them with others, TorrentFreak reported.

Los Angeles - "Star Wars" director George Lucas said on Thursday that his Lucasfilm production company will shift its focus away from movies and into developing programming for TV and other platforms, Daily Variety reported. "We don't want to make movies. We're about to get into television. As far as Lucasfilm is concerned, we've moved away from the feature film thing because it's too expensive and it's too risky," Lucas told Variety, at the groundbreaking for USC's School of Cinematic Arts, to which Lucas contributed $175 million.

Lucasfilm Opens Singapore Digital Animation Studio

Singapore - Lucasfilm, the production company founded by "Star Wars" director George Lucas, on Thursday officially launched its new digital animation studio in Singapore. "When we announced the formation of Lucasfilm Animation Singapore last August, we said we'd open our doors this fall, and we're right on schedule," said Lucas. The company said it hired Phillip Stamp as director of animation for the Singapore studio, which will release its first production, an animated TV series called "Clone Wars" based on the "Star Trek" storyline, some time in 2007. "We're leveraging not only the technology, but the expertise and the techniques developed over the years at Industrial Light & Magic and LucasArts to train a new generation of digital artists at our Singapore studio," said Lucasfilm chief technology officer Cliff Plumer.

Lucasfilm in Deal to Use HP Technology in Movies, Video Games

Palo Alto, Calif. -- HP announced on Wednesday that "Star Wars" production company Lucasfilm has signed a three-year, multi-million dollar agreement to use HP technology in its video game, visual effects and animation operations. The HP technology, including 1,000 HP workstations and a high-end storage system, will be deployed at Lucasfilm's Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio of San Francisco, in addition to at its facilities in Singapore.
