"Terminator Salvation" Machinima Series, Video Game Released

Burbank, Calif. - "Terminator Salvation" producers the Halcyon Company and Warner Premiere on Tuesday announced the release of "Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series," a six-part series that uses computer animation generated by the game based on the movie to tell an original story based on the franchise. Written by Andy Shapiro and directed by Tor Helmstein, the series "reveals the genesis of Blair William's involvement with John Connor's resistance unit two and a half years before the movie begins." The "Terminator Salvation" video game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC also shipped to retailers today. The movie opens in theaters on Thursday.

Electronic Arts, Art & Design Schools Team on "Sims" Art Exhibits

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts said on Wednesday that it has partnered with three art and design schools to produce art competitions and exhibitions that will celebrate the art of its "The Sims" game franchise. Sponsored by Ford, the exhibitions of creations from students at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, Academy of Art University in San Francisco and Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles will feature machinima, paintings, illustrations, sculptural work, fashion designs, cinematography and interactive displays.

Machinima 3D Moviemaking Tool Developer Short Fuze Raises $2 Million

Cambridge, England - Short Fuze, the developer of a machinima (3D movie) engine, announced on Monday that it has raised $2 million in its first round of venture capital financing, co-led by Create Partners and IQ Capital Partners.

Santa Monica, Calif. - A "machinima" film created within a video game that challenges players to become movie moguls and create their own movies has gained notoriety and the attention of MTV.com and The Washington Post. "The French Democracy," a film created by French designer Alex Chan using Activision and developer Lionhead Studios' "The Movies" game, documents the political situation and recent riots in France. "With The Movies we wanted to make a game that allows anyone to easily express themselves by making a short film and posting them online to share with the world," said Lionhead Studios' Peter Molyneux. "Alex's film, which is absolutely terrific, really demonstrates the potential power and impact that these films can have."
