Analysis: Raising the a la Carte Alarm

Authored by Paul Sweeting on May 6, 2008 - 10:17am.
The talk of the digital media blogosphere over the weekend was a report by written by Bernstein Research analyst Craig Moffet headlined, And Now for the News...The Emperor Has No Clothes. It's well worth a read if you can get your hands on it. For those who can't (and even those who can), digital maverick Mark Cuban has a looong post on his blog about the report in which he reproduces many of the juiciest parts.

Mark Cuban: I Can't Believe I'm Becoming An Apple Fanboy

Authored by Mark Cuban on January 23, 2008 - 11:57am.

I ordered a MacBook Air site unseen. That's a first for me. As I write this I'm about to go workout and it dawns on me that I'm on my 3rd generation of Apple IPod. I started with the original, switched to a bigger version (to back up all my pics and show off my kids to my friends) and then for the holidays, got myself and wife an iTouch.

Mark Cuban: Sports Black Eyes, Popeye and the Media

Authored by Mark Cuban on December 18, 2007 - 8:48am.

As inevitable as the Mitchell Report response was, how long will it be before we get the headline: "Popeye denies he knew spinach was a performance enhancing drug". "I had no idea. I was just eating my vegetables. It was supposed to make me stronger. It was what, 30 or more years ago ? How much did we really know about the properties of spinach back then ? Why is the media making such a big deal out of this ? I didn't know then and I am paying the price today.

Mark Cuban: P2P Part 2 and 3

Authored by Mark Cuban on November 24, 2007 - 10:11am.

I love the feedback on my position on P2P traffic. The well thought out "You Suck", " Or "the internet isnt that way", or "The ISP is selling me 10mbs, I can use it anyway I want" Guess what, business models do evolve over time. You may want your ISP to be exactly how you want it to be. You may read into your experience with them anything you want. But it can and will change if the economics don't work for them. No amount of whining about "what the internet is supposed to be" will change any of that.

Mark Cuban: Bill O'Reilly Is Just a Wonderful, Confused Guy

Authored by Mark Cuban on November 12, 2007 - 10:27am.
I've grown to love Bill OReilly. Seriously. If there is anyone who can publicize a political movie, its Bill and I truly appreciate that about him. Magnolia Pictures and HDNet Films' Redacted premiered last week as part of HDNet's Ultra VOD program. With HDNet Ultra VOD movies premiere first in Hotels and on cable and satellite VOD systems PRIOR to making their national theatrical premieres. HDNet Movies will also show a sneak preview on Nov 14th, 2 days before the Nov 16th theatrical release.

Mark Cuban: Dancing With The Stars - What a Great Experience!

Authored by Mark Cuban on October 25, 2007 - 7:38am.
I hate to lose. Fortunately, i didn't. Even though I didn't get the votes to stay on as long as I hoped for. I won in every single way possible.  Five time I got to experience the rush/fear/excitement of knowing that when the music starts 20mm people were going to see me do something for 90 seconds I had never done before, and while I did it, I had to find a way to put that aside and love every minute of it. I did. Thats a win.

Mark Cuban: Vulnerability Has Become the Hallmark of Media Coverage

Authored by Mark Cuban on October 18, 2007 - 7:16am.
I wanted to interrupt my Dancing with the Stars posts to discuss what I think has become the hallmark of media coverage. Vulnerability. Read any newspaper. Any Magazine. Watch any news program. Any gossip or entertainment program. There is one single them that runs continuously: The Search for Vulnerability.

Mark Cuban: Countdown to Week 4 on Dancing With The Stars, The Waltz

Authored by Mark Cuban on October 15, 2007 - 7:34am.
First things first. Thank you to everyone who voted for kym and I and kept us alive this past week. I knew the Jive would be tough on me and it was. It was the first dance where I botched a step and it showed.

Mark Cuban: Being 49 Years Old And Dancing is Exhausting!

Authored by Mark Cuban on October 8, 2007 - 6:28am.
Tonight Kym and I dance the Jive. This past week has been different than the past weeks of practicing in so many ways. We didnt get our song till Tuesday night, meaning we had 6 days. The same as everyone else of course, but dang. Knowing that Monday night is going to get here a lot faster than ever before definitely gave me a lot to think about.

Mark Cuban: Dancing With The Stars - Time To Go For It!

Authored by Mark Cuban on October 1, 2007 - 10:51am.
We have worked hard. The adrenalin is pumping. I got to check out my costume for tonight. Which is pretty cool. Not something people are going to expect from me. We have really changed up the look. Hope you like it! I have to be down in rehearsal in about 20 mins. Believe it or not, this is a little bit more nerve racking than last week. This morning we got to work with the orchestra for the first time. Well after we went through it once. At the same speed as the CD they gave us (ABC picks the music btw), Kym really felt that the tempo of the song was too slow. So boom, she got the orchestra to speed it up.

Dancing with the Stars: What a Wave of Emotions

Authored by Mark Cuban on September 28, 2007 - 9:57am.
Mark Cuban thinks the end is near for his Dancing with the Stars runWow. Talk about a range of emotions and a humbling experience.  I was suprised at how I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be during the day on Tuesday. I got a good night's sleep. I was excited, but not overwhelmed. I think a lot of it had to do with all of the guys hanging out together during the day telling jokes.

Mark Cuban: All Publicity Isn't As Good As It Used To Be

Authored by Mark Cuban on September 18, 2007 - 11:03pm.
"All publicity is good publicity" It may have been true at some point, but it certainly is not true today. Nor will it be true forever more. Instead, the motto has changed to "All Publicity is Abused Publicity."

Mark Cuban: Why I'm Doing 'Dancing with the Stars' on ABC

Authored by Mark Cuban on September 8, 2007 - 10:07pm.
The first question every always ask me is "Why?" Why would I do it? The answer is simple. Because I can. It actually is more surprising to me that some people would even think twice if asked to participate on the show. I'm the first to admit that I'm the luckiest guy in the world. I can honestly say I wake up every morning with a smile knowing what a wonderful family, friends and life I have. It's the exact same way I felt when I was broke.

Mark Cuban: The Internet is Dead and Boring

Authored by Mark Cuban on August 26, 2007 - 10:40am.
A lot of people are all up and upset about my comments that the Internet is dead and boring. Well guess what, it is. Every new technological, mechanical or intellectual breakthrough has its day, days, months and years. But they don't rule forever. That's the reality. Every generation has its defining breakthrough. Cars, TV, Radio, Planes, highways, the wheel, the printing press, the list goes on forever. I'm sure in each generation to whom the invention was a breakthrough it may have been heretical to consider those inventions "dead and boring". The reality is that at some point they stop changing. They stop evolving. They become utilities or utilitarian and are taken for granted.

Mark Cuban: I Forgot How to Write!

Authored by Mark Cuban on August 13, 2007 - 8:31am.
HandwritingI was sitting in a meeting the other day and decided I needed to take some notes . My memory isn't the worlds best, so if I think there is something worth memorializing, I will take notes.

Mark Cuban: The Internet Is Dead, Long Live The Intranet

Authored by Mark Cuban on July 29, 2007 - 10:45am.
For some reason the fact that intranets can significantly outperform Internets and in particular THE Internet is a shocking concept. It shouldn't be. An intranet is a contained network managed to optimize the performance to meet the needs of the participants on the network. Your corporate network in your local office is an intranet. You probably have IT people working hard to make sure its up and as fast as they can make it.

Mark Cuban: Metcalfe's Law and Its Impact on Online Video

Authored by Mark Cuban on July 10, 2007 - 3:16am.
Don't remember where I saw Metcalfe's law mentioned, but it got me thinking. Metcalfe's law states that the more nodes connected to a network the more valuable the network is. Its a simple yet brilliant concept. Since i have some time on my hands recovering from my hip replacement, I decided to ponder what laws applied to the value of video content and its viewers.

YouTube's Chad Hurley and HDNet's Mark Cuban on Copyrights

Authored by Jay Baage on May 11, 2007 - 10:32pm.
Updated - More videos added. YouTube CEO and co-founder Chad Hurley and HDNet co-founder Mark Cuban made the trek up to Capitol Hill this week to tell the members of the House subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet about how they see the future of video taking shape. Not surprisingly, they were asked about their views on copyright issues in a digital age and user generated content. Here are a few highlights from CSPAN put together by the 463 blog.
