Grapevine, Texas - GameStop, the nation's largest specialty game retailer, announced on Friday the launch of a "Respect the Ratings" campaign, which includes the addition of in-store signage at its 3,600 locations, and the creation of a website intended to provide parents with a detailed explanation of the industry's ESRB game ratings system.

RealNetworks Debuts Rhapsody TV, Print Ad Campaign

Seattle - RealNetworks on Tuesday launched a TV ad campaign for the SanDisk Sansa e200R Rhapsody MP3 player that features Eric Clapton. The player was released in the fall and is tightly integrated with the company's Rhapsody digital music service. Print ads are also slated to appear in publications such as Rolling Stone, SPIN and Blender.

HD Digital Radio Alliance to Spend $250 Million on Promotions in 2007

Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance, a consortium of U.S. radio companies promoting the adoption of iBiquity Digital's HD Digital Radio technology by radio stations and consumers, announced on Monday that it plans to spend $250 million to advertise and promote the new format in 2007. Over 1,000 U.S. radio stations are now broadcasting in HD, with 500 FM stations also providing HD2 multicast channels. Members of the alliance include CBS Radio, Clear Channel, Citadel, Cumulus, Emmis and Entercom.

MySpace Launches Online Voter Registration Drive

Los Angeles - MySpace announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with the nonpartisan group Declare Yourself to launch a voter registration drive on the online social network. MySpace is placing ads for the effort on its site, and offering "I Registered To Vote On MySpace" graphics for members' profile pages. Market research firm comScore Media Metrix estimates that 80% of MySpace's 114 million members are of legal voting age. Those interested in registering must do so soon, however, as many states' cut-off dates for registering new voters will come next week, a month before the Nov. 7 elections.

Video Game Industry Launches Voter Registration Drive

Washington - The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), a trade group representing video game publishers and developers, announced on Tuesday the launch of its "Play for Real: Gamer Voter Drive," a project of its Video Game Voters Network. The online voter registration tool will "offer the adults who have grown up with our computer and video games a unique way to involve themselves in the political process on all issues, including the ones that matter most to gamers," said ESA president Douglas Lowenstein. The ESA said that tens of thousands of voting-aged games have joined the Video Game Voters grassroots political network, since its creation last March.

HD Digital Radio Alliance Details $200 Million Ad Campaign

Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance on Monday provided details on a $200 million ad campaign for the emerging technology that will launch in 50 U.S. radio markets. The "Discover It!" campaign will entice consumers to purchase HD digital radios, which can pick up the digital "stations between the stations" that radio stations broadcasting an HD Radio signal provide. The group also said that Amazon.com has been added to its roster of retailers selling HD radio receivers, joining RadioShack, Tweeter and Crutchfield. Members of the HD Digital Radio Alliance include radio station owners ABC Radio, CBS Radio, Citadel, Clear Channel, Cumulus, Emmis, Entercom and Greater Media.
