MovieClips.com Debuts Library of 12,000 Licensed Clips

Santa Monica, Calif. - MovieClips.com on Thursday announced the beta launch of its online library of more than 12,000 movie clips, licensed from six Hollywood movie studios. The two-minute-long streaming clips were licensed from 20th Century Fox, MGM, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures for distribution on the free, ad-supported site. The site also allows users to embed the MovieClips player on Facebook, MySpace and other sites, and includes links to third-party sites where consumers can rent or purchase full-length versions.

MySpace Music Debuts in the U.K.

London - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace on Thursday launched MySpace Music, its music streaming joint venture with the major record labels, in the U.K. The free, ad-supported service, which launched in the U.S. last September, will include unlimited streaming and playlist creation, and provide links to purchase tracks on Apple's iTunes Store.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Founded in 2007 by Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, Joost has raised about $50 million in funding for its peer-to-peer-based video distribution service.

Report: U.S. Labels Concerned on Spotify Premium Conversions

London - The major record labels are reportedly concerned about the percentage of U.S. users likely to pay for ad-supported streaming music service Spotify's for-pay premium version, the Financial Times reported. Spotify, which is available in several European countries, had planned to launch in the U.S. in the fall, but recently said it would delay the launch to 2010. "We think Spotify is a great service but they're going to have to convince us they can convert enough people from free to paid subscriptions to make it worth our while," one label executive told FT.
