MasterCard, MuchMusic Debut Prepaid Card With Free Downloads

Purchase, N.Y. - MasterCard is launching a prepaid credit card in Canada together with MuchMusic, the Canadian music television network unit of CHUM that is broadcast throughout North America.

Mastercard is launching a prepaid credit card in Canada together with MuchMusic. The prepaid card comes with 10 free music downloads upon sign-up and 15% discounts on purchases from MuchMusic. A youth-helping-youth component is also built in for the Much-branded card, as 10% of net profits go to War Child Canada.

Moscow - Reacting to the blow that came as two major credit card companies halted payment processing for its controversial music download store, Russia-based AllofMP3.com called the actions "arbitrary, capricious and discriminatory," adding that it may seek legal recourse to reverse the decisions. The site sells albums for about $2 each, and claims to be legal under Russian law and hold a valid license from a Russian copyrights society. This week, both Visa and MasterCard ceased processing payments for the site.

Yahoo, MasterCard Partner for Online Music Promotion

Santa Monica, Calif. - Yahoo Music announced on Friday that it has partnered with MasterCard on a promotion that will offer cardholders a free year of Yahoo Music Unlimited when they purchase a year's subscription to the service. Yahoo and MasterCard also said they will continue to develop additional seasonal promotions.
