LA Station KCRW Intros New Media Player, Web 2.0 Features

Avid music fans in Los Angeles are already well aware of 89.9 KCRW’s role in the scene. And with the ability to listen to the station’s programming anywhere in the world via its website, it has become a popular source for breaking new talent. But today KCRW introduced a media player that brings the station further into the Web 2.0 world of digital radio.

Axion Introduces First Line of Portable Media Players

Las Vegas - Consumer electronics maker Axion on Wednesday introduced its first line of portable media players, which feature built-in microphones and will use Windows Media technology. Axion will offer a 2.5-inch screen model for $149, and a 3.5-inch screen model for $169 in the first quarter of 2006.

N.Y. Times: Disney to Distribute Media Players in McDonald's Happy Meals

New York - The New York Times on Monday reported on Disney's plans to offer portable media players in McDonald's Happy Meals, as detailed in a recent patent application. Customers could then download segments of movies, cartoons or games over Wi-Fi within the restaurants to the media players. "The reward for eating at a restaurant, for example, could be the automatic downloading of a segment of a movie or the like, or a short animated clip or cartoon," according to the patent application. Since 2003, McDonald's has installed Wi-Fi Internet access points in 6,200 of its restaurants worldwide.
