Mediabolic Acquired by Macrovision for $43.5 Million

Santa Clara, Calif. - Macrovision, a developer of anti-piracy and content production technologies, said on Wednesday that it has paid $43.5 million in cash to acquire San Mateo, Calif.-based Mediabolic, a maker of software for connected consumer electronics devices, such as televisions, set-top boxes and digital video recorders.

San Mateo, Calif. - Mediabolic, a developer of entertainment networking software, announced that it has acquired the assets of Digital 5, a New Jersey-based developer of multimedia streaming software. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. San Mateo, Calif.-based Mediabolic offers a standards-based media player and media server software that let PC's and other home entertainment devices connect via a network and share music, photos, video and other media content. "This acquisition demonstrates our ongoing commitment to expanding our offering of multimedia technologies to next-generation connected entertainment devices," said Mediabolic president and CEO Daniel Putterman.

Home Entertainment Networking Software Firm Mediabolic Raises Funds

San Francisco -- Mediabolic, a provider of home entertainment networking technology, announced on Monday that it has closed on an oversubscribed round of venture capital financing for an undisclosed amount. New investor AsiaTech Management led the funding, with participation by the Intel Digital Home Fund and earlier investors Spinnaker Ventures and Aurora Ventures. San Francisco-based Mediabolic offers an embedded software platform that can connect PCs, PC peripherals, and consumer electronics products like DVD players, stereos and televisions. The company will use the funds to further expand global market penetration, application support efforts, and future product development.
