MediaNet Digital to Power Online Store for Tesco Retail Chain

New York - MediaNet Digital, the business-to-business digital media distributor, on Monday announced a deal to power Tesco Digital, the online entertainment store operated by the retail chain that has stores in 12 countries. The store will offer 3.7 million audio tracks, including 2.4 million DRM-free MP3 downloads, and plans to soon add downloadable TV shows, movies and games.

Embarq Taps Synacor, MediaNet for Unlimited Music Service

Overland Park, Kan. - Embarq, a provider of bundled voice, data and video services in 18 states, announced on Wednesday the launch of an unlimited music streaming and download service, which is powered by Synacor with 3 million tracks from MediaNet Digital. Embarq subscribers can also pay $9.95 per month for the ability to transfer songs to a portable player, and 99 cents per song to burn selections to CD.

Time Warner Cable Debuts MusicNet-based Digital Music Service

New York - Time Warner Cable, the nation's second-largest provider behind Comcast, on Wednesday launched two digital music services for subscribers powered by MediaNet Digital's MusicNet and Synacor. The subscription service and download store Road Runner Music will offer unlimited access to more than 3 million songs, radio stations and music videos from MusicNet for $9.95 per month; for $5 more, the Road Runner Music Portable service allows porting to up to three devices. Synacor will provide billing and other back-end services.

MusicNet, DMX Partner on Sonic Tap Music Subscription Service

New York - MusicNet, the music distribution unit of MediaNet Digital, said on Wednesday that it has partnered with DMX, a provider of music for commercial businesses and cable TV networks, to create a digital music subscription service and download store that also lets users access music collections on both PCs and portable devices. The Sonic Tap service will be powered by MusicNet, which counts a catalog of 4.5 million tracks, while DMX will offer its commercial customers the ability to provide brand-centric digital music services.

MusicNet Licenses Over 1 Million DRM-Free Tracks From EMI, Indies

New York - MusicNet, which is the now the music unit of recently renamed digital entertainment services provide MediaNet Digital, announced on Tuesday that it has signed agreements with EMI Music and several independent labels that will allow it to offer over one million DRM-free tracks to its partners. In addition to EMI, the deal includes indie labels Righteous Babe, Nettwerk, Madacy and Nitro, and the labels represented by Digital Music Group, the Digital Rights Agency (DRA) and the Independent Recording Industry Services (IRIS). MusicNet will sell their higher-sound-quality, DRM-free tracks through its retail partners, beginning in the third quarter.

Digital Music Service Provider MusicNet Renamed MediaNet Digital

New York - MusicNet, the digital music provider that was originally launched by AOL, RealNetworks and major labels but is now owned by Baker Capital, on Thursday announced that it has renamed itself MediaNet Digital. "The expansion to MediaNet with the addition of premium digital content across all major forms of media is a natural extension to our successful music heritage," said president and CEO Alan McGlade. MediaNet provides licensed tracks to services including Yahoo Music, MTV's Urge, Virgin, HMV, Samsung and Microsoft's Zune.
