Digital Magazine Publisher Zinio Merges With Blue Dolphin, Raises $7 Million

San Francisco -- Zinio Systems, a publisher of digital versions of magazines and newspapers, announced on Monday that it has merged with online magazine retailer Blue Dolphin Group. As part of the deal, Zinio said it closed a $7 million financing round, led by North Bridge Venture Partners and Commonwealth Capital. Massachusetts-based Blue Dolphin sells a catalog of more than 1,300 digital versions of magazine titles. Zinio said the deal will allow it to offer digital as an option to a new audience of print readers who can now sample digital versions of magazines before subscribing. San Francisco-based Zinio also announced the launch of a global distribution channel for published digital media, which will enable the delivery of both foreign and domestic titles in the language and currency of member countries -- which currently include the U.S., U.K., Poland, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand.

Mobile Content Firm Orion Merges With Sweden-Based CellPoint

Miami -- Orion Information Services, a provider of mobile content and applications, announced on Wednesday that it has merged with Sweden-based CellPoint Connect, a developer of wireless hardware and software. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Under the terms of the deal, Miami-based Orion will take on the CellPoint name and manage the company's North American division. Recently, Orion partnered with PixelPlay on the development of an interactive TV portal for cell phones. "By incorporating Orion into the CellPoint family, we have instant access into the North American and Latin American markets and can capitalize on the market expertise and client relationships that Orion brings to the table," said CellPoint CEO Michael Mathiesen. CellPoint's products include a Bluetooth headset, mobile personal surveillance technology, and a mobile GPS application.

Games Firm Sega Merges Management Teams at U.S., European Units

San Francisco -- Japanese video games firm Sega Corporation announced on Thursday that it has integrated the management teams of its Sega of America and Sega Europe units, in a bid to collectively drive growth in Western markets. The company appointed former Sega Europe COO Naoya Tsurumi to CEO of Sega of America; former LucasArts president Simon Jeffery to president and COO of Sega of America; Mike Hayes to COO of Sega Europe; and Sue Hughes to vice president of sales for Sega of America. "Integrating the management of our US and European organizations will allow SEGA's Western regions to aggressively develop and pursue products that appeal to Western consumers," said incoming CEO Tsurumi.

Targeted News Provider YellowBrix Merges with FluentMedia

Alexandria, Va. -- YellowBrix, a provider of targeted news and information products and related technologies, said on Wednesday that it has merged with Chicago-based FluentMedia, a content licensing agency of Tribune Media Services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The combined company will keep the YellowBrix name and be based in Alexandria, Virginia. The deal will compliment both companies' offerings. Both provide clients with news, commentary and other information from a wide variety of sources, including newspapers, wire services and trade publications. YellowBrix customers distribute this information to their end users via email, web sites and wireless devices.
