Merriam-Webster Adds Medical Dictionary to Free Web Offering

Springfield, Mass. - Merriam-Webster on Wednesday announced that the complete text of its medical dictionary is the latest free search option to be added to its online dictionary. The new resource is a medical reference tool featuring more than 59,000 fully searchable entries spanning the fundamentals of medicine and healthcare.

Burlington, N.J. - Franklin Electronic Publishers on Thursday introduced its Merriam-Webster Dictionary & MP3 Player. The $70 MWD-480 digital audio player includes 274,000 definitions and features an SD memory card expansion slot.

iPREPpress Releases Merriam-Webster Dictionary for iPods

Washington Crossing, Penn. - iPREPpress, a provider of iPod-formatted content, announced on Wednesday the release of the Merriam-Webster Pocket Dictionary for the iPod. The companies have also partnered to publish an iPod-formatted thesaurus, rhyming dictionary, pocket atlas and dictionary of quotations. The iPod dictionary will sell for $14.95.

Merriam-Webster Launches Online "Open Dictionary" of User Submissions

Springfield, Mass. - Dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster announced on Wednesday the launch of an online "Open Dictionary," which will publish a real-time chronicle of new words and senses based entirely on contributions from its users. Those who submit entries are asked to provide definitions, example sentences and documentation of their entry words used in context. Examples of recent submissions to the Open Dictionary include "phish," "blame game," "fanboy," "gastroporn" and "ginormous."
