Mininova Traffic, Downloads Fall Sharply After Torrent Purge

Los Angeles - A week after leading torrent site Mininova deleted over one million torrent files in reaction to a Dutch court order, traffic to the site is down a whopping 66%, while the number of daily searches and completed downloads has plummeted even further, TorrentFreak reported. Traffic to Mininova.org fell from over 5 million users the day before it removed the bulk of its torrents, to 1.8 million a week later. The number of searches being performed on the service fell from 10 million to 3 million, and the number of downloads dropped from over 10 million a day to just over 371,000.

Mininova Removes All Unauthorized BitTorrent Links

Utrecht, the Netherlands - Mininova, a BitTorrent file-sharing hub that has counted over 30 million monthly unique visitors, has opted to remove nearly all of its torrents, according to a post on the company's blog. The site was sued by Dutch anti-piracy agency BREIN earlier this year, but to this point had maintained that its service complied with applicable laws -- as it did not itself host any infringing content, and complied with requests from copyright holders to remove torrent links.

Dutch Court Orders Mininova to Remove Infringing Links

Utrecht, The Netherlands - A Dutch court has ordered BitTorrent tracker site Mininova to remove all links to copyrighted materials within three months, or else face fines of up to $7.1 million, TorrentFreak reported. The site was sued earlier this year by Dutch anti-piracy agency BREIN, which asked the court to compel Mininova to install a copyright filter.

Utrecht, the Netherlands - Mininova, a BitTorrent file-sharing search engine that claims 17 million daily page views, earned nearly $1.3 million in 2007, Ars Technica reported, citing a filing with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce. The company told Ars that revenue -- which did not include expenses or taxes -- came largely from ads, but also comprised revenue from its Snotr video service, and various partnerships.
