San Francisco - Casual game publisher PlayFirst announced that it has now sold more than one million copies of its "Diner Dash" titles for PC and mobile phones. Three games are available to download for free trial or purchase from the company's website and major game portals, while mobile versions are distributed through Glu Mobile.

Nokia: Average Mobile Gaming Session 28 Minutes Long

Espoo, Finland - Cell phone maker Nokia on Monday announced results of a survey of mobile phone gamers that found 80% play at least once a week, 34% play every day, and the average mobile gaming session is 28 minutes in length.

3UK Replaces Musiwave with Groove Mobile as Mobile Music Partner

Bedford, Mass. - Mobile music service provider Groove Mobile announced on Monday that it has been selected to power the mobile music download service for wireless network operator 3UK, replacing Musiwave as 3UK's mobile music service partner. Groove said its service provides enhanced handset support, as well as the ability to purchase tracks from a PC and for dual download to PC and mobile phones. Massachusetts-based Groove Mobile also powers mobile music services for Orange, Telnor and TMN in Europe.

Jibbs' "Chain Hang Low" Sells 1 Million Ringtones Before Album Release

Santa Monica, Calif. - Universal Music Group/Interscope/Geffen Records announced on Wednesday that hip-hop artist Jibbs has become the second artist to sell one million ringtones of a song before its accompanying album's official release. "Chain Hang Low" went platinum for ringtone sales in advance of today's release of the artist's album, "Jibbs feat. Jibbs."

Kodime Introduces Mobile Music Sales Platform for Indie Labels

Kingston-upon-Thames, England - Mobile software developer Kodime on Wednesday introduced STARtxt Label, a service that lets independent record labels create, market and sell their own mobile music content and digital downloads directly to fans. The service lets labels sell mobile content via both Web and WAP sites, as well as through text message shortcodes included on print advertising, CD inserts and flyers. U.K.-based Kodime said its STARtxt platform is already being used to distribute mobile music content from customers like EMI Publishing and the London Symphony Orchestra. 

Verizon Wireless Debuts Single-Day V CAST Pass

Basking Ridge, N.J. - Verizon Wireless announced on Thursday that it has launched a new single-day subscription option for its V CAST multimedia service for cell phones. Verizon Wireless customers with compatible handsets can now pay $3 for 24-hour access to the service's music videos, TV show recaps, movie trailers, news and sports programming -- otherwise available via subscription for $15 per month.

INgrooves Taps Bango for Mobile Music Storefronts

New York - Bango, a provider of mobile music distribution technology, said on Thursday that independent digital music publisher INgrooves will use its service to allow artists to sell mobile music downloads. San Francisco-based INgrooves holds the mobile rights for 500 labels in the hip-hop, R&B, electronic and rock genres, and builds WAP sites for its artists and labels to sell ringtones and wallpapers. New York-based Bango's browse and buy technology will let artists like Thievery Corporation and The Crystal Method sell digital content directly to mobile phone users across all networks through their own mobile storefronts.

Mobile Downloads Store Thumbplay to Sell Sony Pictures Content

New York - Mobile entertainment retailer Thumbplay said on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and will become the first direct-to-consumer mobile portal to sell games, ringtones and wallpapers based on Sony titles. The deal includes movies like "Open Season" and "Spider-Man 3," and TV shows including "Jeopardy," "Days of Our Lives" and "Different Strokes."

AOL Red, MoMedia to Distribute "Chubby Butter" Shorts to Mobile Phones

Cannes, France - AOL RED, the company's teen Web destination, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a deal with MoMedia International to distribute a series of its "Chubby Butter" animated online shorts to over 100 wireless carriers in more than 35 countries. Around 30 shorts of up to three minutes in length will be made available to subscribers of carriers including Vodafone UK and MTS Russia, for between about $0.93 and $1.85 each.

Disney's Starwave Creates Mobile Content for Beyonce, "Scarface," "The Dozens"

Los Angeles - Disney's Starwave Mobile this week introduced the mobile game, voicetones, graphics and wallpapers it developed in collaboration with Universal Mobile Entertainment for the classic 1980's gangster film, "Scarface." The content is available through wireless carriers and directly through a Scarface mobile storefront. Separately, Starwave announced a publishing agreement with SMK Merchandising to publish mobile content based on the Wayans Brothers film "The Dozens." The company also secured licensing rights from Beyonce Inc. and Sony BMC to develop and publish a mobile game featuring the Grammy-winning singer, that will also feature sisters Dereon and Solange.

Los Angeles - Mobile entertainment retailer Thumbplay this week announced a mobile content distribution agreement with the Walt Disney Internet Group. Thumbplay will sell mobile games, ringtones and graphics from Disney's mDisney and Starwave Mobile divisions.

Nettwerk Taps iLoop Mobile for Mobile Commerce Sites for Bands

San Jose, Calif. - Mobile applications developer iLoop Mobile said on Wednesday that Canadian independent record label Nettwerk Music Group will use its services to launch e-commerce mobile Internet sites for its artists, including Barenaked Ladies. The agreement will allow Nettwerk to place an optical code on tour posters and advertising that can trigger bands' mobile Internet sites, and deliver free and paid mobile content.

WWE Taps mBlox for Mobile Content Distribution

Los Angeles - Mobile payment services firm mBlox said on Wednesday that it will provide its services to World Wrestling Entertainment. WWE will use mBlox to distribute made-for-mobile content including video, text news alerts, schedules, ringtones wallpapers, a fantasy ticker and other features.

Los Angeles - Nokia announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution to sell its movies and TV shows to consumers through mobile stores embedded in its cell phones. The agreement, which covers select European and Asian countries, includes films such as "Superman Returns," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "V for Vendetta," and "Batman Begins," in addition to Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera and DC Comics content.

Konami: "Frogger" Mobile Games Hit $10 Million in U.S. Sales

Los Angeles - Japanese game publisher Konami said on Tuesday that its "Frogger" mobile game titles have now exceeded $10 million in gross sales in the U.S. The company plans to launch "Frogger 25th Evolution" in the fall, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the game's debut in 1981.

Report: European Mobile Entertainment Market to Hit $29.6 Billion in 2011

Cambridge, England - Music, browsing and video services are projected to propel the Western European mobile entertainment market at a compound annual growth rate of 29.2%, from $6.2 billion in 2005 to $29.7 billion in 2011, according to a report from market research firm Analysys. In particular, mobile music is expected to see tremendous growth in the region, with revenues rising more than 75% per year to reach $4.3 billion by 2011.

Shockwave.com Launches Mobile Games Store

San Francisco - Atom Entertainment, a recent acquisition of Viacom's MTV, announced on Wednesday the launch of a mobile games store on its Shockwave.com site. The store will offer mobile game titles from publishers including Glu Mobile, Hands-On Mobile, I-play and RealNetworks, with pricing starting at $3.99 per game. San Francisco-based Atom said the store will be powered by Navio's e-commerce service.

Mobile Payments Firm Obopay Raises $7 Million

Redwood City, Calif. - Obopay, a developer of a mobile payments service, said on Tuesday that it has secured $7 million in a new investment round led by wireless giant Qualcomm. Other participants included Redpoint Ventures, ONSET Ventures and Richmond Management, all previous investors in the company.
