Las Vegas - 3GUpload, a provider of a mobile entertainment portal, announced on Wednesday that it has received a $20 million investment from VantagePoint Venture Partners, and also that it acquired mobile community software developer Mophone. The combined company will re-launch under a new brand later this year, which will count four million registered users. Currently, 3GUpload offers more than 30,000 ringtones, games and other mobile content direct to consumers through subscription services that range from $6-$14 per month. The company said Mophone CEO William Bryant will serve as CEO of the merged company. "We saw community and social networking take off first hand from our experience with MySpace," said VantagePoint Venture Partners managing director Eric Ver Ploeg. "The next phase is to extend this concept to the mobile platform."
