Durham, N.C. - Motricity, a provider of mobile content services, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a contract renewal with the cable TV network Turner Broadcasting. "The deal between the companies continues Turner's aggressive plans to provide interactive television and brand extension services through the mobile channel," the company said. Terms were not disclosed.

The company has added hundreds of employees over the past year and a half, but needs to reduce costs "to make the company more successful," CEO Ryan Wuerch said in the article. Motricity recently acquired GoldPocket Wireless, a provider of mobile marketing solutions for media and entertainment companies.

Durham, N.C. - Motricity, a provider of mobile content delivery technology, has raised $40 million in a round of venture capital led by Advanced Equities. Other investors in the deal include New Enterprise Associates and Technology Crossover Ventures. Motricity said in a release on Tuesday that during the last few months it has signed important agreements with various customers, including Alltel, Virgin Mobile, Sony Ericsson and BET. The company's technology allows content providers, as well as media an entertainment companies to deliver personalized content on mobile devices. Founded in 2001, Motricity has about 300 employees and offices in Durham, N.C., as well as Beijing, London, Munich and San Diego.

Motricity to Develop BET Mobile Content

Washington - Viacom's BET cable TV network announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with North Carolina-based Motricity to develop BET-themed mobile entertainment content. BET Mobile ringtones, graphics, games and social networking features will be promoted on-air during BET shows like "106 & Park" and "Rap City." The company eventually plans to offer full-track song downloads and video clips. BET Mobile content is now available for Cingular/AT&T Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile subscribers, and will be offered to include Verizon and Alltel customers in the first quarter of 2006.

Durham, N.C. -- Motricity, a provider of mobile content and delivery technology, has acquired M7 Networks a California-based provider of technology for the creation and management of mobile game and music communities. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wireless carriers that use M7's technology include Sprint, Cingular, Verizon and Telecom New Zealand. "M7 Networks brings to Motricity an opportunity to expand our reach with wireless subscribers, strengthen key partnerships and create opportunities for new ones," said Ryan Wuerch, chairman and CEO of Motricity. The company also announced on Wednesday that it is relocating its corporate headquarters to Durham’s American Tobacco Complex, which is owned by Capitol Broadcasting Co.

Advanced Equities led the investment round; previous investors Technology Crossover Ventures, New Enterprise Associates and Intel Capital also participated. The company's Fuel mobile content delivery platform is used by Cingular, Verizon, mmO2, Amazon.com and others to deliver mobile games, ringtones, e-books and business applications. North Carolina-based Motricity has added 150 employees in the past 10 months, and said the funding will accelerate its global expansion into Europe and Asia.
