Washington - Wireless firms InPhonic and mPortal announced on Thursday that they have signed an agreement with Disney Mobile, to host and run the data service platform for the upcoming launch of the family-oriented Disney Mobile wireless service. Under the terms of the agreement, InPhonic's Mobile Technology Services Group will work with Disney Mobile to integrate and manage the Disney Mobile wireless data platform. mPortal's software will be used to create Disney's branded interface on handsets. The interface will be designed to make it easier for users of the family-friendly service to download and purchase content and applications, such as ringtones, wallpapers, music and games.

Los Angeles - Gemstar-TV Guide, a developer of electronic program guides for digital television services, on Tuesday announced the launch of TV Guide Mobile, a version of its TV listings for cell phones, in addition to a mobile TV version of its TV Guide Channel. Los Angeles-based Gemstar said it partnered with mobile firms including Roundbox, Alacre, m-Qube and mPortal to develop the services. The company said the new version of TV Guide Mobile will add the ability for users to schedule recordings of TV shows on their digital video recorders.

Vienna, Va. - MPortal, a maker of products that help customers create and monetize mobile content, said that it has raised $4 million in a new round of funding from Friedli Corporate Finance, a venture capital firm based in Switzerland. The five-year-old company said that it will use the funds to accelerate its product development, as well as to continue building out its professional services arm. The company, which also has offices in India, serves a variety of high-profile clients, including America Online, TV Guide, Verizon Wireless and Xerox.
