"Rock Band" Game Released for iPhone, iPod touch

Los Angeles - Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS), along with Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games and developer Harmonix, on Tuesday announced the release of "Rock Band" for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. The $9.99 game includes a full-band Bluetooth multiplayer mode, 20 full-length songs, and the ability to purchase additional songs from within the game.

MTV Games Names Scott Guthrie Vice President, General Manager

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks on Monday named Scott Guthrie as vice president and general manager of MTV Games. Guthrie was formerly executive vice president of publishing at THQ. The company also said it named former Sony Computer Entertainment America executive David Cox as its senior vice president of sales.

McCartney, Starr Introduce "The Beatles: Rock Band" at E3

Los Angeles - Surviving members of the Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were on hand at Microsoft's (NASD: MSFT) E3 press conference on Monday to introduce the upcoming video game "The Beatles: Rock Band" from Harmonix and MTV Games (NYSE: VIA). Set for release on Sept. 9, the game will include 45 Beatles tracks, and offer many others for download, including "All You Need Is Love" -- proceeds from sales of which will go to Doctors Without Borders. MTV, Bruckheimer Name Heads of Game Studio Joint Venture

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games announced on Tuesday that industry veterans Him Veevaert and Jay Cohen have been named to head Jerry Bruckheimer Games, the studio joint venture with movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced in December 2007. Veevaert comes from Microsoft, where he oversaw Xbox 360 franchises like "Halo" and "Gears of War," while Cohen spent the past decade at Ubisoft, working to launch titles like "Prince of Persia" and the Tom Clancy franchise.  

"Rock Band" North American Game Sales Top $1 Billion

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games said on Thursday that its "Rock Band" franchise has surpassed $1 billion in North American retail sales in 15 months, according to NPD Group data. Over 40 million individual songs have additionally been sold as downloadable content for the game.

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games and Harmonix game studio announced on Thursday that the forthcoming Beatles-themed version of its popular "Rock Band" music video game will ship worldwide on Sept. 9, 2009. The company had been in talks with Apple Corps, the Beatles' record label, and surviving members of the band or their widows, and the game will mark the first time the music of the Beatles has been released in any digital format.

MTV Games, Harrah's Team on Casino "Rock Band" Tournaments

Las Vegas - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games said on Wednesday that it has teamed with casino operator Harrah's Entertainment to launch the Total Rewards Rock Band Competition, which will see Harrah's casinos host weekly "Rock Band" game tournaments on "official and permanent, fully-equipped Rock Band entertainment stages." Four regional competitions will then offer the chance to win over $50,000 in prizes.

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks on Thursday announced a deal with the Beatles' record label, Apple Corps, to create a Beatles-branded music video game. The game -- which apparently will not be part of MTV's "Rock Band" franchise -- was conceived with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Star, approved by Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and will feature "LOVE" project co-producer Giles Martin as Music Producer.

New York - Representatives of the Beatles are in talks with Activision (NASD: ATVI) and Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games, makers of the "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" video games, respectively, on deals that would license Beatles songs for inclusion in future iterations of the games, the Financial Times reported on Monday. The deals are reported to be worth "several million dollars," sources told FT, and could be completed within weeks.

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games division announced on Wednesday a partnership to develop original video games with movie and TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("Top Gun," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "CSI"). As part of the deal, Bruckheimer will build a game incubation studio with MTV Games, which will develop, distribute and market titles, and pursue potential opportunities for migration to other media like film and TV.

Cambridge, Mass. - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games and Harmonix game studio, and distribution partner Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) on Tuesday announced the release of their "Rock Band" game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the U.S. The $170 game includes guitar, microphone and drum accessories and allows gamers to play along with popular songs, similar to Activision's "Guitar Hero." In addition to the 58 tracks included with "Rock Band," the companies plan to sell downloadable tracks that can be added to the game.

MTV Games, Harmonix Tap Mekanism for "Rockband" Social Network

New York - Viacom's MTV Games and its Harmonix Music studio have partnered with Mekanism to create an online social network for their upcoming "Rockband" music-themed game. Rockband.com will feature virtual band pages, classifieds, leaderboards and other typical social network features. "Rockband" is slated for release on Nov. 20 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; the title is similar to "Guitar Hero," but includes voice and percussion accessories in addition to guitar.

MTV Games, Red Mile to Publish "Jackass" Video Game

Los Angeles - Video game publisher Red Mile Entertainment and MTV Games have announced plans to publish a title based on the MTV series and movie spin-off "Jackass," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The title, slated for release in September for PlayStation 2, PSP and Nintendo DS, will feature the voices and likenesses of Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O and others from the property.
