Emeryville, Calif. - Gracenote, a provider of CD identification and other services, announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement with the Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA), which distributes tracks for more than 3,000 record labels. IODA will provide Gracenote with metadata and audio fingerprints for all of its releases, which the company will integrate into its Global Media Database. The Gracenote database provides track information services for retailers like iTunes and Yahoo Music Unlimited, and on devices like Sony Ericsson Walkman phones.

Groove Mobile to Debut Exclusive Mobile Tracks from Orchard Artists

Bedford, Mass. - Mobile music service provider Groove Mobile announced on Thursday that a number of reggae and hip-hop musicians distributed by The Orchard will premiere new tracks exclusively on the company's mobile phone download service. Tracks from Pete Rock, Talib Kweli, DJ Crucial, Max Romeo and U-Roy will be available via Groove-powered services -- such as those from Sprint, Orange and Telenor -- several weeks before they go on sale on iTunes or in stores.

San Francisco - The Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA), a digital distributor of independent music, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a number of new record label partners. ATO Records, Barnaby Records, Blind Pig Records, Ecstatic Peace and KOCH Records will add thousands of new songs to IODA's 700,000-track catalog, which is distributed through online retailers like iTunes.

New York - Songs by the Beatles may soon be available for purchase on Apple's iTunes Store, according to Fortune magazine. Citing a music industry executive apprised of the talks, details of the deal are still being worked on -- such as the amount of an advance to be paid to the Beatles, and how long any iTunes exclusivity for the band's catalog would last.

Universal Music to Cut European Download Prices on Catalog Albums

London - Major record label Universal Music Group has announced plans to discount the European digital album prices for some of its back catalog releases, Reuters reported. Beginning Nov. 1, more than 1,500 albums will be reduced in price at U.K. retailers like iTunes to between about $8.89 and $10.43, down from between $12.70 and $15.20.

eMusic to Distribute Tracks from Victory Records

New York - The Orchard, a provider of digital distribution and marketing services for independent music, announced on Monday an agreement with indie film studio Lionsgate, to digitally market and distribute soundtracks and scores from the company's library of movies and TV shows. Among the releases to be offered through The Orchard are the soundtracks to the film "Employee of the Month" and TV series "Weeds."

Digital Music Group to Distribute Shout Factory Label Catalogs

Sacramento, Calif. - Digital Music Group, a distributor of digital music and video recordings, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a long-term digital distribution agreement for two music catalogs owned by Shout Factory that will add 10,000 new tracks to its offering. The deal includes the catalogs of Biograph Records, which includes early jazz, ragtime and blues recordings, and Black Top Records, a label that released blues records in the late 1980s and 1990s. Last month, Sacramento, Calif.-based Digital Music Group acquired rival digital music distributor Digital Rights Agency for about $4.9 million.

Motorola to Preview Unreleased J/Arista Albums on iRadio Service

New York - Motorola announced on Monday that it has partnered with Sony BMG's J/Arista Records to offer previews of upcoming albums through Motorola's iRadio digital music service. The iRadio service offers over 600 channels of music and talk that can be accessed on mobile phones, the PC and car stereos. The first offering under the partnership is a sneak preview of Monica's album "The Makings of Me," available today in advance of its commercial release on Tuesday.

Groove Mobile to Distribute Mobile Music for IRIS Distribution

New York - Groove Mobile, a provider of mobile music download services, announced on Wednesday a worldwide licensing deal with IRIS Distribution. Berlin - Arvato Mobile, a unit of German media conglomerate Bertelsmann that distributes mobile entertainment content, announced on Thursday that it has signed a licensing agreement with the Association of Independent Music (AIM), which represents over 900 record labels. Under the deal, AIM's catalog will be made available as digital downloads through Gnab, a licensed peer-to-peer distribution network, with deals for subscriptions and video downloads expected to follow shortly.

New York - Independent record label KOCH Records announced on Wednesday that it has licensed its catalog for distribution through SpiralFrog's advertising-supported free file-sharing service. New York-based SpiralFrog has also secured licensing agreements with Universal Music Group and EMI Music Publishing for its service, which is scheduled to launch in North America in December.

Paris - Media conglomerate Vivendi's Universal Music Group major record label announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with Germany's Bertelsmann, to acquire BMG Music Publishing for $2.1 billion. Bertelsmann's music publishing arm includes a catalog of over one million copyrights, for compositions from artists ranging from Coldplay and Justin Timberlake to Puccini and Ravel.
