Blinkx Launches Music Video Search Feature

San Francisco - Blinkx, the provider of a searchable index of Web videos, on Tuesday announced the launch of blinkx Music, a new tool for finding and watching music videos that has indexed over 33,000 hours of music video from over 10,000 artists. The new feature lets users search by artist, album, genre or song, and also features artist information as well as the ability to post comments.

- Google and YouTube face a copyright-related investigation in Germany, after a group of independent labels, publishers and artists filed complaints against the companies, Billboard reported. Parties to the complaints include labels Highball Music and Coconut Music; publishers Gerig Musikverlage, Bishop Songs and Musikverlag Progressive; and artists including soprano Sarah Brightman.

AT&T to Sponsor Vevo Music Video Portal Venture

London - Independent record label PIAS Entertainment Group has signed a deal with Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube, under which PIAS sell and manage the advertising sold against videos from its artists on the site, and share revenue with artists. The deal includes both official and user-generated videos, and will additionally see the parties collaborate on channel and page sponsorships.

New York - Vevo, the music video portal joint venture between Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music and Universal Music Group, has received an investment from Abu Dhabi Media Company, All Things D reports. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the report cites a source who says the joint venture was valued at $300 million for the deal.

Warner Music Taps Outrigger Media for Music Video Ad Sales

New York - Major record label Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) has partnered with Outrigger Media to sell advertising against its music videos on YouTube, as well as WMG-operated sites and other platforms. WMG recently reached a new agreement with YouTube, after pulling its videos for a nine-month period after negotiations broke down. Outrigger also sells ads for video publishers including Veoh and Next New Networks.

London - U.K. royalty collection society PRS for Music announced on Thursday that it has reached a new licensing agreement with Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube, which will return music videos to the site in the U.K. Videos had largely been absent on YouTube in the U.K. since March, when PRS pulled them after unsuccessful licensing renegotiations.

- Universal Music Group announced on Thursday that fellow major record label Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music Entertainment has been added to its VEVO music video site partnership with YouTube (NASD: GOOG). Announced in April, the ad-supported VEVO will operate both a standalone site featuring music videos and other video content from Universal and Sony artists, as well as a VEVO YouTube channel and branded embedded player.

Muzu Signs Fourth Major Warner to Music Video Site

Dublin, Ireland - Music video website Muzu now claims licenses from all four major record labels, with the signing of a new deal with Warner Music UK (NYSE: WMG). The deal gives Muzu users across the U.K. and Ireland unlimited, on-demand access to Warner Music video content, with Muzu and Warner to share ad revenues. The companies will also promote the site across Muzu syndication partners like Bebo, GigWise and Eircom.
