Vodafone UK Debuts New Mobile Music Download Store

London - Mobile network operator Vodafone UK (NYSE: VOD) has announced the launch of a new mobile music store, Vodafone Music, which allows users to download songs a la carte over-the-air to their phones. The service lets users add songs from the Vodafone live! Music Shop, which is powered by RealNetworks. Vodafone also still operates MusicStation, a subscription service powered by Omnifone that it is pre-loading on its customers' phones.

London - Omnifone announced on Friday that its MusicStation unlimited mobile music download service on Vodafone's (NYSE: VOD) network is now the largest digital music subscription service in the U.K., overtaking even PC-centric services in terms of subscriber numbers. The company did not break out subscriber tallies for the service, which allows subscribers to download an unlimited number of tracks to their mobile phones for about $3.92 per week.

London - U.K. wireless carrier Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) on Thursday launched MusicStation, an unlimited mobile music download service offering from Omnifone. The service allows unlimited downloads, from a library of 1.2 million tracks from all four major labels and many independents, to a wide range of Vodafone handsets for a weekly fee of about $4.13. Apple is set to release its iPhone with wireless carrier O2 in the U.K. later this month.

London - Omnifone, a U.K.-based mobile music firm, on Wednesday announced the launch of its MusicStation unlimited full-track mobile music service, with the arrival of MusicStation handsets at retail and signing of international licensing agreements with all four major record labels. Sweden's Telenor is the first carrier to offer the service, which will cost about $4 per week -- including data -- and is due to also launch across Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa.
