MixerCast Signs Content Deals for User-Generated Mash-up Service

San Mateo, Calif. - MixerCast, an online media network that lets allows mixing of user-generated content with professionally-produced content, announced on Tuesday that it has signed agreements with content providers including Muze, Pump Audio, National Geographic and Getty Images. The deals will give MixerCast users access to licensed audio and video clips for use in creating mash-ups that can then be posted on community sites like Flickr or YouTube.

Washington - National Geographic announced on Monday that it has acquired The Green Guide, a website and newsletter that offers practical advice on how consumers can be more eco-conscious. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 1994, The Green Guide will now publish new and expanded online content, including how-to videos, on NationalGeographic.com. "We want to offer creative and practical ways to protect the planet," said Tim Kelly, president and CEO of National Geographic Ventures.  "This is a terrific marriage that joins The Green Guide's actionable editorial with the deep resources of National Geographic."

Pictopia to Power Web Photo Store for National Geographic

Emeryville, Calif. - Pictopia, a firm that powers photo sites for the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Gannett and Tribune, announced that it has launched a new online photo store for National Geographic magazine. The site offers more than 25,000 photographs from the official National Geographic image collection, which customers can purchase, framed or unframed, in prints ranging from 10-30 inches.

National Geographic Ventures (NGV) President and CEO Tim Kelly announced today that William S. Weil has been named Chief Operating Officer of National Geographic Entertainment Group, which includes National Geographic's feature film, kids' entertainment and giant screen film business units. Weil joined National Geographic in 2002 and was most recently executive vice president of Strategy, Marketing and Entertainment Group. Prior to joining National Geographic, Weil was Senior Vice President of AG Interactive, and Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Nickelodeon Networks.

Real D To Show 3D Movies By National Geographic

Washington - Real D, a developer of digital 3D cinema technology, announced on Tuesday that it will make 3D films produced National Geographic available to its movie theater partners. The first National Geographic title available in Real D will be "Lions 3D: Roar of the Kalahari," set for release in the spring of 2007.
