Nettwerk, Universal, Indaba Team on Crowdsourced Remixes

New York - Canadian record label and management firm Nettwerk Music Group on Tuesday announced a deal with Universal Music Canada and Indaba to produce a "crowdsourced" companion remix album for hip-hop artist K-OS. Master stems from the 11 tracks on K-OS's forthcoming album "YES!" have been made available via Indaba, a provider of Web music collaboration and community tools. Musicians can download and remix the tracks, and in February K-OS will select the best submissions, with the winners each receiving $1,000 and a spot for their track on Universal's companion remix album.

Toronto, Canada - In order to align the musicians' interests with those of their record label or management company, they should get stock options, much like the company executives get. That way, it would be a true partnership in building the artists' brands for the long run, according to Terry McBride, CEO Nettwerk Management. It was one of the innovative ideas he brought to the table at a session on the new 360 deals at Canadian Music Week's digital music & media summit.

A great energetic performance and lyrics about playing video games on old-school computer “Commodore 64” made the crowd go wild. Datarock is an event-band. What do I mean by this? Widget Provider RockYou Inks Deals With Snocap, Nettwerk

San Mateo, Calif. - RockYou, a developer and distributor of Web widgets, announced that it has partnered with online music firms Snocap, Fliptrack, Pump Audio and Nettwerk Records. San Mateo, Calif.-based RockYou said that it now serves over 360 million free music plays each month on existing widgets, such as Web photo slideshows added to social networks and blogs. The deals will allow users of RockYou widgets to include select tracks controlled by Snocap, Fliptrack, Pump Audio and Nettwerk as background music for slideshows and other widgets. RockYou will also allow for the creation of Snocap MyStores on its site, so users can instantly purchase songs.

Stockholm, Sweden - Stardoll, an online community that lets teen girls dress virtual avatars of celebrities, has signed an agreement with Nettwerk Management to create the site's first official artist page, for teen singer Avril Lavigne, Billboard reported. The page will include four streaming songs, a music video, tour schedule and online store that will offer items including Avril-branded virtual clothing and accessories. Stardoll claims 5.5 million monthly unique visitors to its site.

Electronic Arts, Nettwerk Team on Record Label Joint Venture

Los Angeles - Video game developer and publisher Electronic Arts announced on Monday that it has partnered with Canadian record label Nettwerk (Barenaked Ladies, Sum 41) on a joint venture label, Artwerk, that will sign and develop new and established artists for physical and digital distribution.

Atlanta - Intent Media Works, a provider of media distribution through the Internet and peer-to-peer networks, said on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Canadian record label Nettwerk Music Group, home to artists including Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan. Under the deal, Intent will distribute Nettwerk artists' songs and music videos via a variety of websites, file-sharing networks and social network sites. Intent's technology can track each file across the Internet, so the label and artist know how widely each file is spreading.

San Jose, Calif. - Mobile applications developer iLoop Mobile said on Wednesday that Canadian independent record label Nettwerk Music Group will use its services to launch e-commerce mobile Internet sites for its artists, including Barenaked Ladies. The agreement will allow Nettwerk to place an optical code on tour posters and advertising that can trigger bands' mobile Internet sites, and deliver free and paid mobile content.
