Today a Craig’s List ad (whether real or not has yet to be determined) posted by a “spectacularly beautiful 25 year old girl” made its way around people’s inboxes at lightening speed. It might have set a record, in fact, for “Most Forwarded Email” not containing a picture or video. Here’s the ad in full:

 This weekend I headed to the movie theater to see A Night at the Museum, and before the film there was preview for the Metropolitan Opera's new initiative -- Saturday Matinees Live in HD at local theaters around the world. I have to admit, what first caught my attention in the trailer was the multiple "Apple-esque" logo placements for Edelman in the first moments of the spot. As it turns out, this effort is part of the Met's new marketing strategy in 2007 to broaden the appeal of the Opera to a wider global audience (and presumably realize another stream of revenue from productions as well). Along with the 8 live HD broadcasts of performances in movie theaters, they are also broadcasting weekly audio programs through a partnership with Sirius Radio. The website provides details on all the programs, including some nice links to allow patrons to support the Met in other ways by contributing or spreading the word.

New York - Time Out New York announced on Monday the launch of a broadband video channel, which will provide hundreds of free video profiles and reviews of New York restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Maven Networks is powering the on-demand service, which was initially launched in late 2005 as a free video-on-demand channel on Time Warner Cable systems.

New York - The New York Public Library has added the ability for its cardholders to download free movies through its eCollection online service, which is powered by technology from OverDrive and also offers music, audiobooks and e-books. The movies may be downloaded to a PC or laptop, and also transferred to certain portable devices. The online video library includes foreign films like "The Bicycle Thief" and Fellini's "8 1/2", documentaries, children's titles, IMAX films and various live performances of stage productions. Cleveland-based OverDrive said in March it is in negotiations with providers such as A&E Home Video to add content to its library movie download service, which is also available from the website of the Denver Public Library.

New York -- A New York state court has ordered French media giant Vivendi Universal to pay its former CEO Jean-Marie Messier a disputed $23.1 million severance payment. Vivendi, which has steadfastly refused to make the payment to Messier, said in a statement late Monday that it will use "all legal options" to oppose the payment, including an appeal and a request to stay enforcement of the judgment pending the appeal. During the time he ran Vivendi, Messier went on a frenzied acquisition spree and transformed the company from a water utility into a media giant. New York -- Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. is reportedly close to gaining control of satellite TV group Hughes Electronics -- which operates DirecTV -- in a deal that could be worth as much as $7 billion. Sources close to the situation said that News Corp. is expected to acquire a 35 percent stake in Hughes at a premium to its current market price.
