New York - Mail.com Media Corporation (MMC) on Tuesday announced the launch of HollywoodLife.com, a new female-focused celebrity and entertainment news website headed by former US Weekly editor Bonnie Fuller. The site's content will additionally be distributed by iVillage and AOL Popeater. MMC also operates Movieline.com, which is run by the former editorial team at Defamer, and Deadline.com, which features veteran entertainment journalist Nikki Finke.

Silver Spring, Md. - Cable TV programmer Discovery Communications said on Monday that it has launched a dedicated website for its Discovery News service at DiscoveryNews.com. The company also has launched a Discovery News App for the iPhone and iPod touch. Discovery News produces breaking news, in-depth coverage and analysis of developments in technology, space and earth sciences.

1Cast Debuts Video News Clip Service; Integrates with Boxee

Kirkland, Wash. - Personalized video service 1Cast on Wednesday commercially launched its platform, which pushes customized video news clips to users based on their interests. The company said that it pushed more than 3.2 million video clips monthly to its beta users, from partners including the BBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox, Reuters and Dow Jones. 1Cast also announced a deal with Boxee, to extend its service to the TV media center platform.

Philadelphia - Redlasso, a Web-based video news clipping service for bloggers, on Thursday announced is re-launch, after signing new license agreements with Fox, Meredith Broadcasting, Journal Broadcasting Local Television, Gray Television, and Barrington Broadcasting. The service had gone offline last year after being sued by NBC and Fox News for copyright infringement.

Atlanta - Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) CNN on Tuesday released a new interactive news application for Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone. The $1.99 application includes a live video stream, and "showcases news of the day through text, video and photos. It also features live breaking news video, push notification, localization and personalization tools, user-generated content capture and upload functionality through iReport."

CBS News Taps GlobalPost to Provide Foreign News

New York - CBS News (NYSE: CBS) has forged a partnership with GlobalPost to provide international news from 70 correspondents in 50 countries, The New York Times reported. Boston-based GlobalPost was founded by New England Cable News network creator Philip Balboni and Boston Globe foreign correspondent Charles Sennott, and averages about 400,000 unique monthly users. "Having a broadcast network partner was a high priority for us, and to be associated with CBS News is a great validation of what we are trying to build," Balboni told The Times. "We hope to become an important source of international news for Americans, and this partnership is a big step in that direction."

Salon Lays Off 20% of Editorial Staff

San Francisco - Online magazine Salon.com has laid off six of its editorial staff -- or about 20% of its total team -- including three editors, a writer, photo editor and producer, Gawker.com reported. "We are moving away from a very traditional magazine production model and becoming more of a true Web publication, with a more direct publishing system" that will launch in the fall, Salon CEO Richard Gingras told Gawker. "We think this direction makes us a stronger company, and puts us in a good position to not just weather the economic storm but emerge much stronger than ever."

Meckler Sells Off Internet.com Trade Pubs for $18 Million

New York - WebMediaBrands (NASD: WEBM), the online media company run by publishing industry veteran Alan Meckler, announced on Monday that it is selling its Internet.com family of technology trade publications to marketing firm QuinStreet for about $18 million. "We believe that this transaction will be beneficial to WebMediaBrands and its stockholders as it will significantly improve our balance sheet and at the same time allow us to focus on growing BtoB communities in the non-tech space," said Meckler.
