Hulu: Nielsen is Undercounting Our Site Visitors

New York - Hulu, the online video joint venture between News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) and Disney (NYSE: DIS), has raised objections to methodologies used to count Web video views, as Internet audience measurement firms Nielsen Online and comScore counted 8.9 million and 42 million visitors to the site in March, respectively, The New York Times reported.

Sunnyvale, CA – According to the Wall Street Journal, senior executives of Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) met on Monday to discuss Microsoft’s takeover over the internet giant. It was the first face-to-face meeting between the two since Microsoft’s unsolicited bid on January 31, the WSJ says.

"Operation MySpace" to Host Concert in Kuwait for U.S. Troops

Los Angeles - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace this week announced plans to host a concert in Kuwait for U.S. troops that will feature performances from Jessica Simpson, the Pussycat Dolls, Disturbed, Filter and DJ Z-Trip. The March 10 concert, produced with the Department of Defense's Armed Forces Entertainment and America Supports You program, will be webcast live at the Operation MySpace website. MySpace also intends the site to be a hub where troops' families and friends, as well as the entire MySpace community, can post videos and messages of support via a video blog. MySpace will also produce a one-hour version of the three-hour concert for national broadcast on FX on April 12.

Chemical Explosion at News Corp Headquarters Injures One

A “small chemical explosion” at News Corp’s (NYSE: NWS) NYC headquarters injured one person, a New York Fire Departments spokesman said, Reuters reported. The explosion evacuated “hundreds” of employees from floors 42-45, the building’s top levels, and the NYFD spokeman said the victim’s injuries were “minor.” The explosion, according to the report, occurred in a 45th floor equipment room, and was accidental.

Adelaide, Australia - News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) chairman Rupert Murdoch, whose company is acquiring Dow Jones & Co. (NYSE: DJ), publisher of The Wall Street Journal, said on Tuesday that he intends to abandon the subscription model on the paper's website -- which recently hit a million subscribers -- in favor of a free, advertising-supported model, the Associated Press reported.

HuluThere’s a comfortable familiarity to Hulu, because it’s really no different than watching TV.  You have sitcoms and dramas, full length movies like Sideways (with “limited commercial interruption”) and Weekend at Bernie’s, late night talk shows and sports.  It’s a pleasant surprise, really, and feels something like a candy store, only one in which the candy is free (and ad-supported, of course).

No more from The Office on YouTube...at least legallyNBC Universal has finally left YouTube, removing the channel today ahead of the expected beta launch of Hulu, a video site formed by the company in a joint venture with News Corp.  The companies have touted Hulu, a name at the punch line of more than a few jokes, as a legitimate rival to YouTube.

John Edwards received a favorable response from the MTV/MySpace crowd at a UNH forumDemocratic presidential candidate John Edwards participated in a live-stream forum created by MTV and MySpace at the University of New Hampshire, fielding questions from people in the audience and through MySpace’s instant messenger system.  The forum featured a novel audience reaction concept.  Real-time polling allowed the audience to give feedback during the forum, and judging from the results, Edwards fared well.

New York - Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation said on Wednesday that it would buy Dow Jones & Co Inc. for $5.6 billion, adding the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) to its worldwide media empire. The deal is a triumph for Murdoch, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of News Corp, who managed to overcome dissent within the Bancroft family, which controls voting interest in WSJ publisher Dow Jones & Co.

London - News Corp.'s MySpace online social network on Thursday launched a version of its site in France, as part of the company's roll-out of foreign language sites catering to overseas markets, Reuters reported.
