Sony Debuts $399 'Daily' Touch-Screen E-book Reader

New York - Sony (NYSE: SNE) on Tuesday introduced a new e-book reader device, the Reader Daily Edition, which will sport a touch-screen display and 3G wireless Internet access through AT&T when it goes on sale in December for $399. That price point will make the Daily $100 more expensive than rival Amazon's new Kindle 2 e-book reader.

Borders.com Launches Audiobook Download Store

Ann Arbor, Mich. - Media retail chain Borders on Tuesday announced the launch of Borders Audiobook Downloads on Borders.com with an initial slate of 15,000 titles. Powered by audiobook distributor OverDrive, the site at launch offers around one-third of its catalog in the unprotected MP3 format

OverDrive Adds DRM-Free MP3 Audiobooks to Offering

Cleveland, Ohio - OverDrive, a distributor of digital books to online retailers, libraries and schools, announced on Tuesday that it has added DRM-free audiobook titles in the MP3 format to its offering. The titles, from publishers including Random House Audio, Blackstone Audiobooks, Hachette Book Group and Books in Motion, will initially be made available through Borders.com's audiobook store, with a limited selection also to be offered through OverDrive's library partners.

OverDrive Library Download Service Hits 1 Million Users

Cleveland, Ohio - OverDrive, a provider of services used by over 5,000 libraries and schools to offer downloadable audio books, e-books, music and videos, announced this week that it has surpassed 1 million users. Ohio-based OverDrive counts more than 500 publishers and suppliers, who offer over 75,000 titles for electronic borrowing by library patrons.

New York - The New York Public Library has added the ability for its cardholders to download free movies through its eCollection online service, which is powered by technology from OverDrive and also offers music, audiobooks and e-books.

Egami Media, OverDrive to Offer VOD to Library Patrons

Chatsworth, Calif. - Egami Media, a unit of DVD and CD distributor Image Entertainment, has signed an agreement with OverDrive, a provider of e-book and audiobook lending services for libraries, which will see Image titles distributed to public library patrons via video-on-demand. Image titles covered by the agreement include "Birth of a Nation," Charlie Chaplin short films and live concerts from artists like Chick Corea.
