Oprah to Launch New Network with Discovery Communications

Silver Spring, Md. - Talk show diva Oprah Winfrey is teaming with Discovery Communications (NASD: DISCA) to create "OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network," a multi-platform venture scheduled to debut in 2009 in more than 70 million homes. The network will replace the Discovery Health channel in cable lineups, and include a Web component under the Oprah.com domain.

BurnLounge Lets Fans Create Own Digital Music Stores, Earn Points

New York - BurnLounge on Wednesday announced a public beta test of its service that will let users create their own digital music stores and sell tracks from their favorite artists to the public. Powered by Loudeye, a provider of branded digital music stores with a catalog that includes tracks from all major labels, the service costs $30 per year, and rewards fans who sell tracks from their sites with points redeemable for products, services or music downloads. For an extra fee, fan affiliate sites can redeem points for cash, and also create their own affiliate networks.

Report: 125 Million Will Own Mobile TV Cell Phones by 2010

London -- Sales of cell phones capable of receiving TV signals will grow from 130,000 this year to 83.5 million in 2010, when nearly 125 million consumers will watch cell phone TV, according to a report from U.K.-based market research firm Informa Media. Handset maker Samsung has introduced its first TV phones, and Nokia will ship its first in early 2006, while mobile TV networks are just beginning to emerge. "The degree to which these networks will become either competitive or complementary will ultimately determine the fate of market," said Informa analyst David McQueen.
