Stockholm, Sweden - A Swedish court has ordered two of the operators of file-sharing hub The Pirate Bay to cease their involvement in operating the site, or else face fines of $71,000 each, TorrentFreak reported. The story notes that neither Gottfrid Svartholm nor Fredrik Neij currently reside in Sweden, nor is The Pirate Bay itself currently hosted on servers within Sweden.

Stockholm, Sweden - The four operators of Swedish file-sharing hub The Pirate Bay, who were convicted of copyright infringement in April and sentenced to a year in prison and nearly $1 million in fines, will be back in court in November for their appeal of the ruling, TorrentFreak reported. The Pirate Bay continues to operate, although now on new servers after a recent court ruling compelled its Swedish ISP, Black Internet, to take the site offline.

Peter Sunde Resigns as Pirate Bay Spokesman

Stockholm, Sweden - Peter Sunde, the longtime spokesman for Swedish file-sharing hub The Pirate Bay, has resigned to pursue other interests, TorrentFreak reported. "I want to build something new and I want to focus my energy in a different direction. I have projects waiting to be finished, a book is waiting to be finalized and many more books are waiting to be read," Sunde told TorrentFreak. The Pirate Bay is currently in the midst of a $7.8 million acquisition by Global Gaming Factory, which is expected to close later this month. Sunde also faces a year in prison for his role at The Pirate Bay, along with three others who were recently convicted of copyright infringement by a Swedish court.

Stockholm, Sweden - One of the four associates of The Pirate Bay, along with several Swedish Green Party politicians are launching a defense fund to help those accused of copyright infringement under Sweden's new anti-piracy law pay legal costs, CNET News.com reported. Peter Sunde, who was sentenced to a year in jail for his role with The Pirate Bay, told CNET that the fund hopes to be able to provide $6,000 to $12,000 in legal aid per criminal case defendant.

Pirate Bay Judge's Copyright Interests Prompt Call for Retrial

Stockholm, Sweden - After a Swedish national radio show reported that the judge who sentenced the operators of file-sharing hub The Pirate Bay to a year in prison has connections with several pro-copyright groups, defense lawyers have called for a mistrial, TorrentFreak reports. Judge Tomas Norstrom sits on the board of the Swedish Association for the Protection of Industrial Property, and is a member of the Swedish Association of Copyright -- whose membership also includes Henrik Ponten, of the Swedish Anti-Piracy Bureau; movie industry lawyer Monique Wadsted; and Peter Danowsky, of the record label trade group IFPI.
