Photo-sharing Service Photobucket Launches Developer API

Palo Alto, Calif. - Photobucket, the photo-sharing service acquired by News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) Fox Interactive Media last year, announced on Tuesday the release of the site's application programming interface (API), which will allow developers to build new applications based on Photobucket. Any developer will now be able to offer Photobucket-based applications alongside offerings from Adobe, AOL, FotoFlexer, Intercasting, RockYou, Slide, Snapvine and TiVo.

Photo-Sharing Service Photobucket Launches Mobile Version

Palo Alto, Calif. - Photobucket, the online photo-sharing site acquired last year by News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), on Tuesday announced the launch of a mobile version of its service, allowing users to upload and view photos on their cell phones. The company said an internal survey of Photobucket users by Fox Interactive Media in August 2007 found that 80% have a camera phone, 36% use the camera on their phone every day, and 52% can access the Internet from their phones.

TiVo Users Can Access Online Photos on Photobucket, Picasa

Alviso, Calif. - TiVo (NASD: TIVO) announced on Monday that it has partnered with online photo-hosting services Photobuck and Picasa Web Albums, to allow TiVo subscribers to access their own photos and those of friends via their broadband-connected TiVo boxes. TiVo users will also be able to search community photos of interest by keyword through TiVo's search interface.

Analysis: Flickr Traffic up 38% in Past Four Weeks, Now #2 Photo Site

In June, Yahoo! Photos began to close, and users are being encouraged to join Flickr. Later in the month, Yahoo! began including Flickr images in Yahoo! Image Search. These efforts have resulted in an increase in Flickr's US market share of 38% in the past four weeks (week ending 7/7/07 vs. week ending 6/9/07). Flickr is now the #2 photography website in the US, with 6.42% of category visits for the week ending 7/7/07.

When I first wrote about Photobucket last year, many people were surprised by the large amount of traffic it received, as its traffic was mainly driven by users uploading images and posting on their MySpace or other social network pages. Traffic to Photobucket has continued to grow along with MySpace and social networking - from March 2006 to March 2007 its market share of US visits increased by 113% and it captured 41% of visits to the Hitwise Entertainment - Photography category, which contains more than 1,400 websites.

San Jose, Calif. - Adobe Systems announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with photo and video hosting provider Photobucket to integrate its new Web-based video remix and editing technology into the site. The free, Flash-based editing software is available now to Photobucket Pro users, and will be expanded to all of the site's 35 million members by early March. San Jose, Calif.-based Adobe said it expects to announce similar partnerships over the coming months.

Palo Alto, Calif. - Photobucket, a provider of visual content hosting and publishing services, said on Tuesday that it has secured $10.5 million in its second round of funding, led by new investor Trinity Ventures of Menlo Park. The company, which said that it is profitable, said that it will use the funds to expand its market and revenue growth. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Photobucket, which has more than 16 million members and draws 10 million unique monthly visitors, according to comScore Media Metrix, allows user to upload videos, images and graphic art and link it to over 50,000 web sites like eBay, MySpace, Blogger, and Neopets. The company said that it serves over 50 billion image and video requests a month.

Palo Alto, Calif. - Photobucket, the provider of a free image hosting service popular with the 64 million members of the MySpace social networking site, announced on Wednesday that it has expanded its offering to include video hosting and sharing services. Photobucket Video will offer users 1GB of free video storage, and up to 5GB with a premium account. The company claims 15 million registered members, and serves over 50 billion image requests per month.
