Sirius XM, Pioneer Introduce Wearable XMp3 Radio

New York - Sirius XM Radio (NASD: SIRI) and device partner Pioneer Electronics on Thursday introduced the XMp3 wearable satellite radio and MP3 player, which it says is the lightest and most compact receiver yet, and the first to offer simultaneous, multi-channel recording capability. The $279 device includes an auto-record feature that can store up to 30 hours of radio programming, as well as a DVR-like feature that automatically buffers the most recent 30 minutes of programming for easy replay.

The annual CEDIA Expo has been underway in Denver this week, where consumer electronics manufacturers were unveiling their newest top-of-line hardware for an audience of custom home theater installers. This year's show was heavy on (very) high-end Blu-ray Disc players from Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, JVC and others (not much for the Wal-Mart crowd there). But it also featured hardware makers' first substantial forays into Internet-enabled TV sets, which are designed to serve as their own bridge between the Web-delivered video and the big-screen TV in the living room without the need of a separate set-top box or PC.

Pioneer Debuts Beta of SyncTV Download Service

San Jose, Calif. - SyncTV, a unit of Pioneer Corp., on Monday announced the launch of a private beta test of its new Internet-based TV download service, which will initially offer content from providers including CBS' (NYSE: CBS) Showtime Networks. Currently available for PC, Mac or Linux, with plans to offer portable device and TV compatibility, SyncTV offers unlimited downloads of DVD-quality or HD-quality shows from pre-programmed channels, which cost between $2 and $4 each per month. Other shows will be available a la carte for about $2 each.

Pioneer Introduces $299 Blu-ray PC Drive in China

Beijing - Consumer electronics firm Pioneer has introduced a new $299 Blu-ray Disc PC drive in China, and plans to expand the device into other markets, DigiTimes reported. So far, Pioneer has said the $299 price point will only apply to the Pioneer BDC-S02 drive for PCs. Toshiba recently introduced a standalone player for its rival HD DVD format that will sell for $299; Wal-Mart has placed an order for two million of the devices.

XM Satellite Radio, Pioneer to Sell Pink Radio for Breast Cancer Charity

Washington - XM Satellite Radio and manufacturing partner Pioneer Electronics on Wednesday introduced a pink Pioneer inno XM2go portable player. The companies have pledged $30 from the sale of each $349 device will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The pink inno radios will go on sale Sept. 10 online and at Circuit City retail stores.

Sony, Pioneer Delay Release of First Blu-ray DVD Players

Tokyo - Sony has delayed the release of its first next-generation Blu-ray Disc player from later this month until mid-August, according to a note on its Sony Style site.

Gemstar Settles Patent Dispute, Licenses TV Program Guide to Pioneer

Los Angeles -- Gemstar-TV Guide International, a provider of electronic program guides for digital TV services, announced on Friday that it has ended outstanding litigation with consumer electronics firm Pioneer, and will license its program guide technology for use in Pioneer products in North America, Japan and Europe. The deal includes a one-time payment to Gemstar of $14 million, as well as license fees based on the number of Pioneer devices using Gemstar technology that are sold. "I'm delighted to have resolved the issues between our two companies, and look forward to working with Pioneer to make their customers' television experience more simple and enjoyable," said Gemstar CEO Jeff Shell. In the past several months, Los Angeles-based Gemstar has signed similar license agreements with Sony, LG, Comcast and Mitsubishi.
