Report: Orb to Support Remote Media Streaming to iPhone

London - Orb Networks is set to announce that its remote PC media access application will support Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone and iPod Touch, The Register reports. Orb's place-shifting software gives users streaming access to the music playlists, songs, photos, videos and TV content stored on their PCs; for the Apple devices, streams will be delivered as MP4 files. The Orb application will also purportedly allow iPhone users to send a link to streaming versions of songs stored on their computers to friends via a link during an SMS chat session.

San Mateo, Calif. - Sling Media, a developer of "placeshifting" software that allows users to access their premium cable channels and recorded TV shows from any Internet-connected device, on Thursday launched its SlingPlayer Mobile. The $29 application will allow owners of its Slingbox set-top box to view their home TV from any mobile phone or PDA running Windows Mobile.

SageTV Adds "Placeshifting" Feature to PC Media Center Software

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. - SageTV, a developer of digital video recorder technology, announced on Tuesday that it has added a "placeshifting" capability to its SageTV Media Center application, enabling users to access their live or recorded TV shows, music and photos while away from home on any Internet-connected PC. Similar to Sling Media's Slingbox device, Illinois-based SageTV's placeshifting software will be available as a $30 add-on to its $79 digital video recorder and media center software for the PC.

San Mateo, Calif. - Sling Media, the developer of the Slingbox -- a set-top box that allows users to access their premium TV channels and recorded TV shows from anywhere over the Internet -- announced on Tuesday that it has raised $46.6 million in its latest round of venture capital financing. Goldman Sachs, Liberty Media and Echostar Communications led the investment round; Allen & Co., Doll Capital Management, Mobius Venture Capital, The Hearst Corporation and others also participated. San Mateo, Calif.-based Sling Media's $250 device redirects, or "placeshifts," a single live TV stream from a basic cable connection, cable box, satellite receiver or digital video recorder to the viewer's PC through the Internet, where it can then be accessed from any other Windows-based PC or Windows Mobile-based PDA or smartphone.
