Are You Aware of FCC's New Requirements For Broadcaster's Digital Operations?

The FCC's Emergency Alert System ("EAS") is the bane of many broadcasters. Failing to have operational EAS equipment, or otherwise failing to comply with the requirements of the rules, including failures to conduct the mandatory tests of the system, are among the most common causes of a fine following an FCC field inspection. To help ensure compliance with the EAS rules, the FCC has issued a series of booklets outlining the EAS obligations not only for broadcasters, but also for cable systems, satellite radio and wireline video providers.

Podcast Measurement, Ad Insertion Firm PodBridge Raises $8.5 Million

Mountain View, Calif. - PodBridge, a provider of podcast audience measurement and ad placement services, has raised around $8.5 million in its second round of venture capital financing, PEHub.com reported, citing a regulatory filing.

London - DoubleClick, a provider of digital advertising technology and services, announced that it has acquired Tangozebra, a London-based provider of online ad technology in Europe, for about $30 million.

Mountain View, Calif. - Google has released its year-end Zeitgeist, which saw U.K. social networking site "Bebo" claim the title of most-searched term on Google in 2006.

PodZinger Debuts Podcast Ad-Insertion Service, Will Split Ad Revenue

Cambridge, Mass. - PodZinger, an audio and video search engine that returns full-text results, on Thursday launched a service that will allow podcasters to collect revenue from ads run along with their programs. The company will place 15-second ads that will air before a podcast begins, and split revenue with podcasters who sign up for the advertising service.

AOL Unveils Several New Podcasting Offerings

Dulles, Va. -- America Online on Wednesday announced that it has integrated access to the Web's podcast content at a new portal. The company has launched its "Podcasting 101," which lets visitors subscribe to an assortment of popular podcasts. In addition, AOL Radio has launched a new station featuring a non-stop stream of podcasts, both from AOL and partners such as NPR flagship station KCRW, CNN, BBC and Gamespot.com. AOL's Winamp 5.1 media player now includes a new podcast directory, which allows users to download and subscribe to hundreds of podcasts. AOL also said that it plans to add enhanced podcast search abilities to its AOL Search tool this fall, through the integration of TVEyes' Podscope search engine. Separately, the AOL's RED service for teenagers announced the launch of a new online reality TV show, which will feature six college freshmen documenting their experiences, using a camcorder and daily blog. "Project Freshman," produced by 2C Media, will offer new episodes every Thursday.

Podcasting Start-up PodShow Raises $8.85 Million

San Francisco -- PodShow, a start-up providing directories, community, technology and content programming for the budding podcasting market, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $8.85 million in its first round of venture capital financing. Investors in the round included Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Sequoia Capital and Sherpalo Ventures. Co-founded by former MTV personality and podcasting developer Adam Curry, PodShow offers podcasting software called CastBlaster, and hosts a network of podcast programs that are distributed through Apple's iTunes and Sirius Satellite Radio. The San Francisco-based company will use the funds launch additional features, programs and technologies in the immediate future.
