GameStop Renews Major League Gaming Sponsorship

Grapevine, Texas - GameStop, the large video game retail store chain, announced on Wednesday that it has renewed its sponsorship of Major League Gaming, a pro video gamers league, through the 2008 season. Separately, GameStop announced plans to host its own video game tournaments for Nintendo's "Pokemon" titles for the DS. The Pokemon Battle Revolution tournaments will be held at 1,000 U.S. GameStop and EB Games locations on July 21.

Redmond, Wash. - Nintendo of America on Monday shipped "Pokemon Battle Revolution" for the Wii console -- the first Pokemon title for the device -- as well as the first online Wii game in the Americas, and the first Wii game to wirelessly link to the Nintendo DS and let players use the handheld systems as Wii controllers. New York - U.S. video game sales rose 49% in May, to $815 million, spurred by sales of Nintendo's DS handheld, Wii console and "Pokemon" game franchise, according to various reports that cited sales data from market research firm NPD Group.

San Francisco - Spurred by continued strong sales of Nintendo's Wii and DS systems, U.S. video game sales were up 20% in April from the same period a year ago, Reuters reported, citing industry sales data compiled by market research firm NPD Group.

Los Angeles - Nintendo has announced that U.S. pre-orders for its forthcoming "Pokemon Diamond" and "Pokemon Pearl" games for the DS handheld system have topped 533,000, and are already expected to be two of the top-selling titles overall for 2007.

Nintendo to Ship Two New Pokemon Titles for DS Next Month

Redmond, Wash. - Nintendo announced on Thursday that it plans to release two new titles in its Pokemon franchise, "Pokemon Diamond Version" and "Pokemon Pearl Version," on April 22 for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo said that it shipped a combined 5 million units of the two titles to retailers in Japan during their first three months of release, adding that over 155 million Pokemon games have been sold worldwide.

4Kids Forms New Divisions to Publish Interactive Trading Cards

New York - 4Kids Entertainment, a provider of children's entertainment and merchandise licensing whose franchises include "Pokemon" and "Yu-Gi-Oh," announced on Monday the formation of two subsidiaries that will focus on original trading card properties. The company will be majority owner of TC Digital and 50% owner of TC Websites. Both subsidiaries' first product will be "Chaotic," a new trading card game based on the animated TV series, that will feature an associated website with online gameplay and community activities. The Chaotic trading card game is set to launch in the spring of 2007.

New York - Mobile entertainment publisher Zingy said on Monday that it has partnered with Pokemon, the children's entertainment property, to develop a mobile entertainment service. Pokemon Mobile will offer ringtones, wallpapers and other content, billable to a subscriber's cell phone account.

Redmond, Wash. - Nintendo of America announced on Tuesday that its Pokemon game franchise, which has garnered $15 billion in worldwide retail sales, is nearing its 150 millionth game sale. Pokemon was launched on Game Boy in Japan in 1996, and in North America in Sept. 1998. The most recent title, "Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness," was launched on Tuesday for Nintendo GameCube.

Nintendo Sees Strong Sales of New Game Boy, "Zelda," "Pokemon" Titles

Redmond, Wash. -- Nintendo of America announced on Friday that it has shipped over 800,000 of its new Game Boy Advance SP handheld game devices to North American retailers, and that its "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" title for GameCube, which sold 600,000 copies through pre-orders, will likely soon sell through its initial shipment of 1.1 million units. The company said that since it began taking pre-orders for the new Zelda title, which launched on March 24, GameCube console sales experienced a 20 percent increase. Additionally, Nintendo said that it shipped 2.2 million units of its "Pokemon Ruby" and "Pokemon Sapphire" Game Boy Advance titles in North America; the Pokemon games have already sold over 4 million units in Japan.
