Politico to Launch Site Covering Local D.C. News

Washington - Political news blog Politico plans to launch a new site that will cover local news in Washington, D.C., The New Republic reported. The new Metro site, which will compete with the Washington Post, will be headed up by former Washingtonpost.com editor Jim Brady.

Politico to Team with Starbucks Coffee

Arlington, Va. - Politico, the political media firm, on Wednesday announced a deal with coffee chain Starbucks to distribute copies of its newspapers and special sections at more than 70 locations throughout the DC area. The two companies also plan to hold a series of coffeehouse chats at various stores during the first 100 days of the Obama administration. Politico's chief political correspondent, Mike Allen, will moderate the chats, beginning next month.

Reston, Va. - The number of visitors to political blogs and news sites has skyrocketed during the 2008 presidential election season, compared with a year ago, according to new figures from Web audience measurement firm comScore.

Yahoo, Politico to Host Online Forums During Conventions

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) and political media firm Politico on Tuesday announced a partnership with The Denver Post and St. Paul Pioneer Press to hold a series of public forums during the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Colorado and Republican National Convention in Minnesota. The series will include eight morning breakfast panels, to be held Aug. 25-28 in Denver and Sept. 1-4 in St. Paul. The forums, moderated by editors from Politico and the host newspapers, also will be available online at Politico.com and Yahoo News.

Washington - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) and political news site Politico announced that on Tuesday they will offer the first online video interview with President George W. Bush from the White House.
