San Francisco - The makers of the Readius pocket-sized e-book reader device with a roll-up display need financing to bring their product to market, Wired.com reports. Polymer Vision had planned to launch the device in Europe last year and in the U.S. in early 2009. "Our whole supply chain is in place but the device is not in market because, like many other companies, we have had financial difficulties," CEO Karl McGoldrick told Wired. "The last nine months have been very difficult for young companies."

Eindhoven, Netherlands - Polymer Vision, a spin-off of Philips, has announced the development of the world's first "rollable" display for mobile devices, which it plans to display at the 3GSM World Congress next week in Barcelona. While the device itself is smaller than a typical mobile phone, it features a display that can extend up to 5-inches, and then roll back and wrap itself around the outer shell of the device when not in use. Polymer Vision said it partnered with wireless carrier Telecom Italia to offer the first rollable display-enabled mobile device later this year.
