The latest news about Dell's exploding laptop saga is not good - there is a front page piece in the NY Times today about their battery recall and the whole scenario is providing fuel for the "I told you so" crowd that fanned the flames of Dell Hell. Paris - French wireless firm Alcatel announced on Tuesday that mobile network operator T-Mobile International will use its technology to launch mobile TV services with T-Mobile subscribers in Germany, the U.K. and Austria. Alcatel will aggregate live TV content, and provide features such as an electronic program guide for the "TV in Your Pocket" services.

London -- European youth are spending less time watching TV and listening to the radio in favor of surfing the Internet, according to a survey of 15-24 year-olds across Europe conducted by the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA). Of those surveyed, 46% said they watch less TV as a result of using the Internet; 34% said they talk on the phone less; 33% said they read fewer newspapers; and 22% said they don't listen to the radio as much. In terms of overall media consumption, European youth still spend the most time watching TV (31%), compared with radio (27%), the Internet (24%) and newspapers (10%). Almost half of the young people surveyed said they were prepared to pay for music online (47%), while 25% said they would pay for online gaming. "The 15-24 age group is the holy grail for most advertisers and the EIAA research conclusively demonstrates the extent to which the internet now represents an essential media for this audience, increasingly replacing other media including TV and radio, said EIAA chairman Michael Kleindl.

New York -- MusicNet, a joint venture between several major record labels and technology firm RealNetworks, announced on Monday that it has signed a long-term agreement with U.K. music retailer HMV. Under the terms, New York-based MusicNet will provide its library of licensed tracks, as well as delivery technology to support HMV's new digital music download store. HMV said it plans to invest about $19 million to launch the service in the second half of 2005. The U.K. retailer, which operates 200 locations, also contracted with Microsoft late last year to develop customized jukebox player software, which users will be required to download in order to access the online store. HMV will offer the player software both online and from its retail stores.
