Web Listeners to Public Radio's KCRW Eclipse Radio Audience

New York - Southern California public radio station KCRW's online audience has now surpassed its terrestrial radio audience, the Wall Street Journal reported.

October data from Google Analytics show that KCRW online -- which features live and on-demand streaming of the station's programming -- counted 760,000 unique visitors during October, compared with KCRW's estimated terrestrial radio audience of nearly 600,000.

American Public Media Expands Public Radio Podcasts

St. Paul, Minn. - American Public Media, the nation's second largest producer and distributor of public radio programs, announced that it has expanded the number of programs it will make available for download as podcasts. The company launched full-program podcasts for "Marketplace," "Word for Word" and "American RadioWorks," and plans to add "The Splendid Table" in November to a podcast lineup that also includes its "The Writer's Almanac," "Speaking of Faith" and "Sound Opinions" programs.

Motorola Adds Public Radio Programming to iRadio Service

Los Angeles - Motorola announced that it has added a number of public radio programs to its iRadio service for mobile phones. New programs from iRadio's 600-channel offering -- currently in consumer trials in several U.S. cities -- include NPR's podcasts of "Story of the Day" and "All Songs Considered," American Public Media's "Marketplace" and Public Radio International's "The World."

From Digital Music Forum West 2006: That's not entirely true. NPR's new digital music service, announced on Aug. 31 and slated for launch in the first half of next year, will likely point users to digital retailers where they can buy song downloads and a portion of proceeds will go to NPR — a presently offered on NPR.org.
