Boston's WGBH Launches Video Player Offering "Frontline" Episodes

Boston - WGBH, the Boston-based public television station, has begun distributing a video player that allows viewers to watch entire hour-long episodes of its Frontline investigative news program, as described in a report in the Boston Herald. The player is being employed on the websites for WGBH and public TV stations in Los Angeles and New York, with plans to expand its use to other station websites as well.

KCET to Offer "NewsHour" Webcasts 4 Hours Before TV Airing

Los Angeles - Southern California PBS station KCET announced on Tuesday that it is now offering a webcast of its "NewsHour" program four hours ahead of its daily televised broadcast.

Arlington, Va. - PBS on Wednesday announced the creation of a new position -- chief content officer -- and named KQED executive vice president John Boland to be the first person to serve in the new role.

Cable TV Providers Reach Digital Carriage Agreement With Public TV

Washington -- The nation's cable TV providers on Tuesday announced an agreement that will ensure that public TV stations will be carried on digital cable systems. The Public Television Digital Cable Carriage Agreement was signed by the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). Many public TV stations are already broadcasting multiple digital and high-definition signals, and the new agreement calls for cable TV systems to carry up to four public TV streams of programming in a given market. There are currently 356 public TV stations in the U.S., and about 100 stations are currently being offered on digital cable systems.
