Paris - According to a report by the Associated Press (AP), a group of experts in France and Germany has launched a new Internet search engine called Quaero that is being touted as Europe's answer to Google. Although Quaero is still composed of only a small number of researchers in laboratories across France and Germany, the group told AP their aim was to build the world's most advanced multimedia search engine. Designers also said that Quaero, which means "to search" in Latin, would be not just a search engine, but "a set of tools for translating, identifying and indexing images, sound and text". Corporate and academic partners on the project include Thomson, Deutsche Telekom, Bertin Technologies and the University of Karlsruhe.
