Jury Orders Jammie Thomas to Pay $1.9M for Sharing 24 Songs

Duluth, Minn. - A jury has awarded the record labels that sued Jammie Thomas-Rasset for copyright infringement on a file-sharing network $1.92 million in damages, or $80,000 for each of the 24 songs she shared, the Recording Industry vs. The People blog reported. After three days of testimony this week, closing arguments were heard on Thursday before the jury began deliberations in the case.

Los Angeles - The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has filed court documents seeking sanctions against Ray Beckerman, an attorney who defends those accused of illegal file-sharing and runs a blog documenting those and other related cases, called Recording Industry vs. The People.

San Francisco - A Bronx woman sued by the major record labels for file-sharing copyright infringement has taken the novel approach of challenging the constitutionality of the Copyright Act, the law under which she was sued, Wired.com reports.
