DMW’s CEO & Publisher provides a wrap-up of the top stories of the week. Who’s hot, who’s not and what’s the industry buzz?

In the days following Microsoft’s (NASD: MSFT) announcement of its unsolicited $44.6 billion takeover bid for Yahoo (NASD: YHOO), much of the news focused on the battle between Google and Microsoft to color the other’s motives as anti-competitive. As reports surfaced that Yahoo may try to avoid being acquired by Microsoft by giving control of its search advertising to Google in exchange for a large revenue share (although nothing has made public by either Google or Yahoo on this), Microsoft reportedly began lobbying government officials to block any such deal between the two on antitrust grounds setting the stage for what is likely to be a long and public battle between Google and Microsoft over control of the Internet.

Authored by Mark Cuban on January 19, 2007 - 12:00pm.
Internet video is going to take over the world. We want unlimited choice. We want user generated content. We want our TV shows streamed to us. Give us the long tail. Please. Because we want all of this magnificent video, we want, no we need, to be able to hook up our computers to our brand new HDTVs. Of course its not that easy for non techies to get the internet video from the net, through your PC or router to your TV. But thats what we want.

Is Revver Stepping up Advertising?

Authored by Scott Goldberg on October 18, 2006 - 5:30am.
Revver Logo Driving on Sunset in Hollywood last Saturday night, I noticed a huge billboard advertising Revver.  So I spoke to my contact there, and he only offered, "We're currently laying our plans.  Stay tuned." I could be wrong, but I think it's unusual to lay your plans at the same time that you're executing them.  Revver is no doubt hatching something huge, because billboard advertising is not cheap on Sunset.  Granted, Revver is a Hollywood-based company, so marketing on its own turf makes sense, but still...get ready to see more of Revver elsewhere.  I also should add: The billboard looked good; nicely styled, simple, and unavoidable.

Spotlight: The Revver Model Separates it From the Pack

Authored by Scott Goldberg on October 11, 2006 - 11:29am.

Revver LogoGoogle might have liked YouTube, but Revver might be more valuable.  The company splits the ad revenue from a piece of content 50-50 with its creators, and is adamant about prohibiting files that violate copyright laws.  If I'm a content creator, I'm all over that site right now.  The more popular it becomes the more potential money in your pocket.
